There once was a young cat.

Who lived in a mansion,

With her mother and father.

She was white with red stripes,

Along her head,

Tail,

And ears.

She was dressed in scarlet silk.

Today was her birthday.

Many came to celebrate,

In sparkly dresses,

In shiny suites.

And the cat,

She waited,

For her dance partner.

In came a young lizard.

Who lived far away.

He was purple all over,

With a yellow horn,

On his forehead.

He stepped in quietly,

Not saying a word.

He looked to the stairs,

At the top.

He saw a young cat.

She was dressed in silk,

Scarlet to be exact.

They danced.

People watched.

How lucky were they?

They were rich.

They were healthy.

They had loving families.

They had each other…

They escaped to the back.

No one was there.

No one was watching.

They talked,

Giggled,

And whispered.

He asked a question,

If she'd be with him,

Forever.

Her answer was clear,

Yes.

But there was another there.

He was watching,

Waiting,

And thinking.

He was a hedgehog,

Colored red and black.

He was not lucky like them.

He was rich,

Yes,

He was healthy,

Of course,

He had a loving family,

Indeed,

But he did not have another.

That one little flaw,

That one little indent,

Was enough to drive him insane.

He wanted it,

He wanted it badly,

Very badly.

But he didn't want just anyone,

No,

He wanted her.

The young cat.

The one dressed in silk,

Scarlet silk.

So he made the worst decision of his life.

The two went to the lounge room.

The cat left,

She went to fetch some drinks.

The lizard stayed behind,

On the couch.

He didn't notice behind him that,

The hedgehog had done as he had wished.

The young cat came back.

She had a smile on her face.

But her smile vanished.

She dropped the glasses.

She had just found her loved one,

Dead…
