The Mortality Spell

It was a full moon when the cart pulled up to the lake, where the snow clung to the ground. It shined and sparkled from the moonlight like a blanket of silver. Lawerence had pulled up to the lake in order to rest his horse, himself and Holo from the journey they had taken.

Lawerence stretched as he got off the cart and looked back at the long road. Then he looked at Holo. She looked back with her deep red eyes, they smiled at each other with a knowing glance. They were close to their destination; they were close to Yoitsu.

"How much farther till we reach Yoitsu Holo?" asked lawerence with a bitter taste in his mouth.

"Not much farther now about two day's travel by foot, but given the snow it would take maybe three day's from here in the cart." she looked at Lawerence with sad knowing eyes when she said this.

'It won't feel the same without you on the cart you know.' Lawerence thought to himself. What he really wanted was to stay with Holo till the end of his day's, as a both a merchent, and a man. But was it really possible for him do so. Was it really possible to strip away her god of harvest powers.

-FLASHBACK-

About two days before; "HOLO COME OVER HERE." shouted Lawerence.

"What is it so suddenly, there's no need to shout, I am only around the corner." said Holo with a stern look on her face.

"Sorry but this is important, is it true?" he asked ernestly whilst holding a worn, slightly faded, leather book.

"Is what true?" she asked taking the book from Lawrence.

"Well..." he said.

"I... do not know. This is the first time I have heard of such a thing but if it is true then... maybe we could..." she stopped herself from saying anything more as she went scarlet with embaressment.

"If it is true then we could be together" said Lawerence clearly understanding what Holo had tried to say.

"Idiot, saying things like that so easily and front of so many people" said Holo as she looked away from lawerence out of embarrasment whilst blushing furiously. "Though if this book is right...I..I would be free of the wheat that i'm bound to, and my life would be as long as a regural mortals...Though I would still outlive you by several years, if my current good looks are anything to go by" She jibed with a playful smirk, and just a hint of her blush remaining.

-FLASHBACK END-

Once more looking into each others eyes, with a hopeful gleam and small smiles on their faces, they would dare to hope that they could be together, without worry or consequence. Though how long that hope would last, would be determined by the mortality spell working...or not.
