I swear I'm working on the big stories!! Anyway, I needed a break from working on Islands and Emos so I went through my To Do file and found a prompt BlackIceNinja had given me a while back. This is what I threw together.
Lipstick on Your Collar
The house was dark when Riku walked in. He frowned as he moved down the hallway, wondering just what was going on. The front room and kitchen were completely devoid of life and poking his head in the office revealed it to be just as empty.
Where was Cloud?
He paused in the doorway of the office, worrying his lip. He still was not quite sure why he had gotten so angry at Cloud. There had been absolutely no reason for him to blow up like he did. He knew in his heart that Cloud had been telling him the truth. He had acted childishly and he knew it.
Sighing heavily, he turned toward the bedroom door. Maybe the blond had gone to bed early. After the verbal lashing Riku had given him earlier, he would not be surprised.
Opening the door, he blinked in confusion. The bedroom was lit only by the moonlight streaming down from the skylight and a row of candles burning on the dresser. The flicker of those candles reflected off the rims of two filled wine glasses.
Slowly stepping further into the room, he heard the door shut behind him. Strong arms wrapped around his waist and warm breath whispered in his ear. "I'm sorry."
Riku brought his arms up to rest over Cloud's. "You have nothing to apologize for. I'm the one who's sorry. I totally overreacted."
"I got defensive." Cloud countered softly. "If I hadn't jumped on you like I did, you wouldn't have-"
The silvered teen chuckled and turned around within the older man's arms. "I probably still would have. I've been really insecure lately."
Cloud's smile was gentle. "I've noticed."
He lightly pushed Riku back, guiding him toward the bed. Once the teen was seated on the edge of it, Cloud went over to the dresser and retrieved the wine glasses. Bringing them over, he handed one to his lover and settled himself beside Riku.
Aqua eyes shined as Riku grinned. "You're a bigger romantic than I am."
"Only for you."
They drank quietly for a few minutes, simply gazing at one another. Any lingering doubts Riku harbored left him as he took in Cloud's obvious devotion for him. How could he ever lose faith in this?
Finishing his wine, Riku stood and took Cloud's glass. He brought them both back over to the dresser, setting them down. He watched the flames of the candles flicker for a moment before returning to the bed.
He pressed a hand against the blond's chest and pushed him back to lie on the mattress. Slowly, almost teasingly, Riku climbed on top of him settling comfortably on his hips. He bent down, moving in close with his hands on either side of Cloud's head.
Nuzzling his lover's neck, Riku grinned then nipped on Cloud's earlobe. He drew back and traced a finger down the man's jaw and neck. That finger lingered to toy with the collar of Cloud's shirt. "Promise me one thing."
Cloud lifted an eyebrow in query.
The younger one dropped back down and whispered softly in his ear, lips just barely touching skin. "Next time I find lipstick on your collar, it better be mine."
