Theme #17 - Violets
You shift into a more comfortable position upon the grass which acts as your support. A mild gust of wind passes over you and instinctively you inhale. The clean, cool scent of grass inundates your senses - it's mixed with something else, minutes pass before you realize that it is the smell of violets.
Next to you, she shifts in response to your movement and the tips of her fingers brush yours. Even though you know it's accidental, you can't help but feel surprised and you redirect your gaze from the clouds overhead to her.
Her eyes are on the blue and white sky above. Her hair, short and choppy, is unrestrained because she says it hurts to lie with it tied up. She is silent - for once and you wonder absently how long it will last. Not so much the silence as this moment.
It is strange to you and perhaps, to her. For you both to be here, stretched out next to each other, staring up at the clouds that you love so much. You've had moments like this before but for some reason, it's different - better with her.
She turns her head now and looks at you and your thought patterns change because you're sure she's about to say something about you staring at her too much. Your mind is already racing, contemplating your response to her as yet unuttered insult.
To your surprise, she smiles - her genuine smile, the one that you find just a little bit scary because it's just so wide, and speaks in a hushed tone which suggests that she appreciates this moment just as much as you do, "This is nice - I see why you like it so much."
You smile a little crookedly and nod, then turn back to the clouds, thinking but not saying that she is right - that this is nice, this peaceful moment beside her.
You have to admit it doesn't take very much to make you happy - just the clouds, the silence and Temari.
A/N: Written for the LJ community - 30 flowers. Inspired by a peaceful moment with my family today. I've wanted to write something new, write some more ShikaTema and most of all, write in the second person for awhile now and I managed to do it all in one fic. Thank you God for the inspiration. I really wanted a sense of peace to pervade the piece - did I manage it?
