Hey guys :) Another oneshot, this one from Eclipse. It's pretty self-explanatory. Keep in mind that Edward's seeing it exactly as Jacob shows him (hence the first person view of the memories), including the first memory from Sam. Hope you like it. G Wiz 13

"She's tougher than you think," Jacob said. "And she's been through worse." But you wouldn't know that, would you, bloodsucker? I'll fill you in.

He thrust his memories on me before I could speak.

Bella was lying on the ground in the forest, looking up at me like I was a complete stranger. Her eyes had huge lines under them, and she was covered with filth, but her expression was the worst. It was of complete and utter devastation. She kept on repeating "He's gone" like it was the only phrase she would ever utter again.

Billy, telling me of a phonecall with Charlie. Bella is catatonic, and on the brink of insanity, but she refuses to move or get help.

Charlie said she didn't eat for a week.

The first time she comes to my house, I'm so shocked to see her, but I can see she's still not herself. She still has those lines, like she has aged thirty years. She's smiling, but it isn't deep. It was never deep.

The weeks spent on the motorbikes, and hiking. Bella reinventing herself. How she always used to clutch at her stomach whenever she was sad, which got less and less as time went on.

Hearing her screaming in her sleep as I ran around her house at night, making sure she was safe.

That's more than you ever did. You didn't care about her at all.

Bella's face in the glade, looking from the leech to us in complete horror. The exact same expression she had when she was in the forest. Scared and alone. Alone.

"That's funny," Jacob said, laughing at my grimace. How could he laugh at Bella's pain? Before I could react any more, he thrust the next one on me.

Bella finding out that I'm a monster, and not caring. Her secret that the redhead is after her. The breakdown she has when she realises that she's still not safe.

And you weren't there for her.

The discussion of what happened in Phoenix. Bella distracting me by telling me about the bloodsuckers that messed her up.

"It hurts to think about them," she whispered. "It's like I can't breathe . . . like I'm breaking into pieces . . ."

Her face when she realised that her leeches were back. The lines disappear, and her smile was deep. It went all the way through and lit up her face.

I work for months to get her healthy, and she only does that for you. You, who left her to deal with everything alone.

Bella's terrified face flashed across his mind again from the night Sam had found her.

"What are you doing to him?" she demanded. I looked across to see her beautiful face staring at me with concern.

"It's nothing, Bella," I reassured her. "Jacob just has a good memory, that's all." Jacob was right. I wasn't there for her, and she took me back anyway. It wasn't right. Not normal. But then, when had Bella ever been normal? At least she wasn't alone any more. I could hear that in Jacob's thoughts. Even though he loathed me, to see the Bella he remembered coming to Forks was what he had truly aimed for all along. And part of him – a very small part I knew he would never admit to - was grateful for my return. Because I made her happy again.
