It's raining tonight so this story just popped into my head because I love the rain and have a feeling the Winchester boys would too. This is my first attempt at writing a Supernatural story so hopefully it's a success. Enjoy!

Dean and Sam sat inside the Impala, safe from the pelting rain outside. Dean loved everything about the rain except driving in it. He couldn't see a damn thing, let alone the road. He tossed a glance in his brother's direction who was staring out the window at the falling precipitation. Somehow the action made Dean recall a childhood memory from a happier time. A time when neither brother had to worry about watching each other's back 24/7.

John Winchester held his eldest son by the shoulders and looked him straight in the eye, "Dean I'll be back in a little while so you're in charge while I'm gone. Take care of your brother and don't go outside for any reason."
Dean nodded in obedience. Not five minutes after their father left, it started pouring outside. Sam ran to the motel window and cried out in excitement, "Dean look it's raining!" Dean joined his brother at the window and sure enough rain could be seen. Sam tugged on his brother's sleeve, "Can't we go out and play in it?" His eyes were wide and full of intent. Dean frowned at Sam, "Sorry Sammy, we can't. Dad said we have to stay inside." Sam stuck out his lower lip in a pout. He was eight years old, that would only work for so long, Dean thought. He began to to contemplate the idea. He and Sam never got to do anything fun, they were too busy trying to survive. "All right, fine." Dean said submitting. "Yes!" Sam shouted already throwing open the door.

It had been awhile since Dean had seen his little brother so happy. He was running around and splashing in puddles, soaked hair sticking to his face. He called for Dean to come join him, but Dean was reluctant. Sam shrugged and continued playing in the downpour. Dean soon found himself smiling and laughing and then running around with his little brother, having the time of his life. Although they were only out in the rain for minutes, it felt like a lifetime. Soon they were both shivering from the cold.
"Come on Sam, let's go back in before we freeze to death." Dean stated, stepping back into the motel room. Sam nodded and followed his brother inside. The two boys were frantically trying to dry themselves off before their father returned. Changing their clothes would've looked too suspicious. Sam and Dean both jumped at the sound of heavy footsteps entering the room. John Winchester looked at the soaked appearances of his two sons. He knelt down so that he was eye level with the two boys, "Did you two go out and play in the rain?" Sam and Dean looked at each other, "No sir." they said in unison.
