It's short but I couldn't get it out of my head so here it is. I sadly don't own these characters.
He had an attack. He had an attack while serving the dinner. He had an attack, and she had to try her damned hardest to push that thought away and help the others carry on with the rest of the dinner. But as much as she has tried her thoughts keep drifting back to him, to them.
She had tried so hard to caution him, to warn him that he needed to stop working so hard. But Charles was stubborn and with their relationship being strained at the moment of course he had not listened to her. It had all began at the start of the war. At first it hadn't been so bad but the stress had slowly started to overwhelm them both to the point where it was interfering with their relationship. She knew every couple had their rough patches, that eventually it would work itself out, but now with him lying upstairs after possibly suffering a heart attack... She couldn't bear to lose him, especially without making up for the past couple of months.
She goes up to see him after the doctor has gone, sending up a quick prayer to God for sparing him. It was not a heart attack but he will need rest and she will personally make sure he gets it. Upon entering his room she finds him lying in bed with his eyes closed. She knows he is not sleeping by the rise and fall of his chest, and when she clicks the door shut he opens his eyes. They remain like that for awhile, eyes locked, not saying anything, until finally she breaks. After holding it in all night she lets it all out. Her hands come up to cover her face as tears start to fall.
He says nothing but reaches out to her. She goes to him gladly falling into bed beside him and ever so gently wraps her arms around him, afraid of hurting him, but desperate to feel him beside her.
"I'm here love, I'm fine." He soothed rubbing her back and drawing her closer. She want's to yell at him, to scream and tell him he should have listened to her, but she doesn't. She will bring it up later, maybe, after he is rested and well but right now all she cares about is this moment right here, and starting down the path to fixing what has been broken.
