Light When It Is Darkest

A colossal crash of thunder tore through the heavens as a streak of lightning seemed to cleave the world in two. A girl of fourteen stood at the window of an unseen house – number twelve, Grimmauld Place. The green outside was devoid of human presence, and the few trees that stood resolute swayed in a wild, hypnotic dance to the wind's song.

The girl, called Ginny, appeared even more diminutive than she really was a lightning crackled beyond the window and torrents of rain added their drumming to the cacophony of the storm.

"Gin?"

The voice was male, and its owner was framed in the doorway of number twelve's drawing room.

"Harry," Ginny said with a hidden smile.

The teen came to stand just behind her.

"Knut for your thoughts," he murmured after a moment of comfortable silence.

"I was just thinking," Ginny began, pausing to look up into those emerald eyes of his, her gaze thoughtful, deep.

"I was just thinking how it's funny that the sky makes light when it is darkest."

Harry stared at her, then out the window to trace one of the jagged flashes of lightning with his eyes.

As he did so, Ginny used her own honey-brown eyes to trace a different bolt of lightning.

She reached up, and touched the oddly-shaped scar on the young man's forehead.

The bolt of lightning had for so long been a symbol of pain, suffering, and a horrifying destiny.

But now, he thought he had a new understanding of its symbology.

The two said nothing more all night, but watched the storm with eyes that saw only the light in the midst of darkness.

A/N: Yup! Another drabble! I literally wrote this in the ten minutes between talking to my friend on the phone and eating brunch with my mother, so it probably isn't the best thing I've ever written, but I liked the idea, I liked the line that became the title, I like the fandom, I like the couple...you get the idea. I generally like it. So, tell me what you think! :D
