A/N: Okay, so... anybody else make Father's Day cards in the months before school let out? Well, my class did when I was little, so that's where that comes from. Just didn't want to confuse everybody with the timeline. ^_^;;
This just popped into my brain pan randomly, and I wrote it down. Unbeta'd (as always). Tell me what you think.
Summary: Sam gives Dean a present that he never expected to get. Fluffy family ficlet. Alliteration, FTW!
Father's Day
"Here." There was a tug on his sleeve, and Dean looked up from his comic book to find his little brother staring at him imploringly. In his outstretched left hand was a folded piece of blue and white construction paper. Dean rolled his eyes, and took the card.
He looked. And then he looked again. Opened it up, traced the inside lightly with the tips of his fingers. Spoke through the tightening of his throat, pinpricks of tears threatening his eyes. "Sammy. What is this?"
Shaggy brown hair falling into his eyes, Sam shifted from foot to foot like he had to pee. "Um. Today we did father's day cards in school. And dad's not here." He added this last like an afterthought, still bouncing nervously on the balls of his feet.
Dean swallowed the growing lump in his throat. His grip on the open card turned his knuckles white. "You should wait until dad gets home; give it to him then." He barely caught the shake of the little boy's head, but there it was. And here he was. The card loomed up at him, light reflecting off of it from the open window.
"No, it's for you." And then Sam was off, running roughshod into the living room where the sound of afternoon cartoons soon permeated the space.
Dean read the card again. He folded it back and tucked it carefully into his duffle. And he didn't even care that Sam couldn't wait a few weeks to give it to him.
