Summary: Reflecting
on Roger, scrying, and sloppiness. Written for Goldenlake Drabble
Tournament. Runner up for 100 word Tortall category
In his first life, Roger loves mirrors, though he does not usually see his reflection in their polished surfaces. Scrying comes naturally to him, as fire starting does to "typical" Gifted infants.
Watching gives him secrets, and power. At eight, he forces a maid to return the pearls she stole. At seventeen, he promises to conceal another student's cheating, if the boy does him a favor.
Eventually, his mirror calls him to the Black City, where he makes allies.
Waking from Sorcerer's Sleep, he sees only his face on the glossy surface that once unfolded mysteries.
Mirrors lose their appeal.
