Parting

Now I leave for shores unknown

With my kin, to seek my fate

I know now I can never return

Save by fatal mischance

My dear sister is my side, so tall and strong

She is of like mind to the Fire Spirit's sons

Fingolfin's eldest has his own reasons for leaving

Surely one is to follow his dearest friend

Even now I am not certain of my own motives

There is nothing for me in that desolate place

Least of all do I wish to leave the one I hold most dear

How I wish you would come, but I know you cannot

Nay, I place no blame on you, dear one

You do not belong in such a cold, barren wilderness

Stay here, in the land of bliss

Even if that bliss in now marred

Farewell, lady most dear and fair

I can feel you watching me from afar

Know that I will remain true to you

None shall fill the emptiness that you leave

Nor shall I fault you if you take another

One such as you should not be alone

I only ask of you one thing

Never forget the joy that we two shared.
