Deidara was the only person who knew the true Tobi. The true person under the mask. The man he loved.
Deidara woke up one day on his own. This was the first time in years his beloved hadn't woken him up. Must be early Deidara thought before looking at his clock. But it wasn't early, it was 10:30. Deidara had a feeling something was very wrong with Tobi.
He checked Tobi's bed to see if his suspicion was correct. Tobi lie in his bed, gasping for breath, and coughing in between gasps. "Deidara-sempi," He said weakly.
"Shh, don't talk, Tobi." Replied Deidara. "I'll see if I can get Kabuto over here to cure you."
Because of all Deidara's pleading and begging, Kabuto came over. He took a look at Tobi and made a list of Symptoms. He could only find three things wrong with Tobi.
Fever of 104 degrees
Violent coughing
Difficulty breathing
"Has he been bitten by any wild canines lately?" Kabuto asked Deidara.
"Yes, a few days ago." Replied Deidara. "While we were on a mission some coyotes attacked us. Tobi didn't want me to get hurt so he killed them all. One bit him. I didn't think it was too big of a deal so I just cleaned his bite and went on."
"Tobi has Wolf Fever, a disease that is only spread through the bite of a wild canine." Said Kabuto. "There is no cure for it, but it will go away on its own in about a day or so. Tobi almost definitely will die. Keep his fever as low as possible. Some other possible Symptoms are blurred vision, seizures and rigors. Call me when his Symptoms are gone. Oh, and if he starts having a seizure, or looks about to die, call me imminently."
Kabuto left, leaving Deidara alone to care for Tobi. Deidara didn't know much about bringing down a fever, so he decided to just start with putting some ice on Tobi's forehead.
"Deidara-sempi, what are you doing?" Asked Tobi as the blond man removed his mask.
"Saving you." Deidara put an icepack to his sick partner's forehead. "The ice will bring down you fever."
Tobi started shivering. "Deidara-sempi, where are you? Tobi can't see you! Everything's a blur!"
"Shh, it's just a Symptom. It's okay." Deidara kissed Tobi on the cheek. "I hope you don't have a seizure or anything."
…
Thankfully, Tobi didn't have a seizure. But something worse happened.
In the middle of the night Tobi started coughing loudly. So loudly it woke Deidara up.
The blond was asleep next to the other when this happened. He got up and called kabuto on his cellphone.
Tobi stopped coughing for a moment and said "Deidara-sempi, it hurts I can't breathe."
Deidara knew something was wrong when Tobi wasn't talking in the third person anymore. "No, don't die, Tobi!" He screamed "Please don't die!"
But he didn't get his wish. The coughing stopped, so did the breathing. Deidara searched for a pulse and couldn't find one. "No! Tobi you can't be dead!" He cried. "Nooooooooooooo!"
Kabuto entered, he too could not find a pulse. "I'm sorry," he said to Deidara. "Tobi's in a better place now." He left to give the blond some time to grieve.
"Tobi, how could you leave me?" Sobbed Deidara. "I loved you! Did you love me to?"
"Yes, Tobi did, Deidara-sempi." Replied a masked man from heaven. "And soon, Deidara-Sempi, soon you will join Tobi in paradise."
