It's the last sound he expects to hear. He would rather hear the Flash's screams as death overtook him, or the sound of his vehicle carrying him home. Either of those would be welcome.
Instead, he hears a single gunshot.
There's screaming, but it's not the Flash. His ancestor, who Eobard is now convinced is completely insane, is standing there, a single gunshot wound in his chest to match the single gunshot, the weapon that was fired dangling in his grasp.
Crazy laughter tries to fight its way out. Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, has been defeated by a bullet. And it hasn't even touched him. It didn't even come close. It couldn't.
Everyone there seems to be in a panic over Eddie Thawne, but Eobard knows for a fact it's too late. Already his being is splitting, shredding - disappearing.
He turns to the Flash. He turns to Barry Allen.
The boy looks shaken, but he's the only one besides Eobard who hasn't run to Eddie's side. Instead, he only looks at his nemesis. His arch rival. The man who killed his mother.
Eobard feels empty. He is the man who destroyed Barry Allen, but it's not enough.
Because he also is the one who built Barry Allen back up again.
He knows he no longer has the face of Harrison Wells, he can feel himself coming back to him. His last moments, and he will have his own face - he will be himself.
An empty comfort.
He stares at Barry, the Flash, and he remembers telling him when he was in his coma that there would be a reckoning. Recompense for all he had done to Eobard.
Now is a reckoning, Eobard realizes as he becomes nothing, but it is not Barry's.
It is his own.
AN - Drabble thing I wrote because I had the idea and couldn't stop thinking about it. This is my first Flash related fic, and I'm really having fun writing Flash related stuff. This may be the first thing I post for it, but I have a multi-chaptered fic in progress. In three days I've almost reached 8,000 words in it, which is a big deal for me. I never write that fast. Guess this show is just providing inspiration right now :)
This was inspired by the scene wherein Eobard tells Barry while he's in his coma that there will be a reckoning. I just wanted to write something about that, combined with the scene where Eobard dies. If something isn't completely accurate to the show, I apologize. I can't remember everything that happened in every episode, and I don't have the time to rewatch it.
Thanks for reading! Reviews are appreciated, especially constructive criticism :)
