Don't own 'em, not makin' any money, yada yada yada,
"It was a dark and stormy night…."
I let out a snort; just about spewing the beer I'd just sipped all over Bobby's front as Lester had begun to 'share' with us one of his favorite early takedown stories.
We'd just finished a rather comical distraction and decided to let off a little steam. We'd congregated at Shorty's, and were huddled around a couple pitchers of beer while waiting for Tank and Ranger to finish up with the skip at the police station and join us.
Ram shot me a look and prodded Lester to continue. Just as Lester opened his mouth, the door swung open and in walked Ranger and Tank, the guys suddenly sobering up.
Lester winked at me and uttered in a lowered voice "Gonna hafta save that one for later, Beautiful. I got a hot date tomorrow night, and I need all my parts in working order".
I narrowed my eyes at him as Ram snickered in my ear. Ranger slid into the booth next to me and dropped a kiss above my ear.
"Good job tonight, Babe. Animal control was able to round up all the dogs and chickens, Joyce was treated and released, and Evan Marquardt won't be terrorizing the 'Burg with Joyce and Vinnie for a long time. I think even the Rosella twins might lay low. Might be a record for you" he finished, a satisfied half-smile on his face.
Lester stood up, clapping. "Let's hear it for Bombshell! No garbage, explosions, fires or gunshots and she stayed clean!"
I shot him a death glare, almost canceling out the glow of satisfaction I felt at Ranger's praise coupled with the memory at the sight of my arch-nemesis Joyce Barnhardt being wheeled away on a gurney screaming at the top of her lungs. She hadn't looked too sexy then with chicken feathers (or was it the whole chicken?) tangled in her hair, the Bull Mastiff's leash so wrapped around her left leg it looked like he'd need to be surgically removed, mascara & eyeliner streaming down her face, and her faux leather outfit in tatters hanging off her body with her boobs peeking out. She was a sight!
This was gonna go down as one of my favorite takedown stories!
