The Effect of the Meat Industry on America and the World
The effects of all types of meat on the world are much more destructive than they need to be, and the fact that this could be changed with hardly any effort on the parts of individual people is unnerving. For example, taking another case: that if everyone took the power plugs of out of their T.V.'s every time they didn't use them, then we could produce enough energy in one day equal to energy production amount of the Hoover Dam, which produces 2080 megawatts per day, as reported by the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of Reclamation. The same could be done for meat-eating. If everyone in America reduced their meat-intake by only a mere 10, then the savings in feeding could potentially benefit and solve the hunger problems of 60 million people worldwide, according to the Jain Philosophy and Practice Textbook-2, 2005.
Energy Usage & Ecological Impact: The amount of energy required by the meat industry is more than any other type of industry in the world. It takes 2.2 pounds of beef production to equal the amount of C02 emitted by a European car that has traveled about 155 miles, says Gidon Eshel at the University of Chicago. Meat takes up too much of the Earth's energy to be continued for much longer. In fact, it is expected to double by 2050, and there will be unrelenting livestock abusiveness and torture, with the end result being to kill them and sell it on the mass market, not only in America, but even more heavily in Eastern developing countries. But also in addition to this, the land usage will be a hand-in-hand partner for increasing with the energy
usage. As more livestock is produced, more land is needed to satisfy the need for meat. But already, 30 of ice-free Earth land is used for the meat industry, and this number will only expand. And not only that, in will eventually harm us all, as producing more and more livestock only increases global warming.
Abusiveness to animals: Every single day, tens of millions of different animals are slaughtered all for the momentary sense of good taste in one's mouth. That really isn't a good enough reason to eat meat, directly because of the suffering that the animals have to go through while they are being "raised" and just killed off for meat. There is no doubt that while animals are in captivity, there is an unlimited amount of pain that animals have to experience. That cannot be denied. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many pictures and videos that millions of people have seen with animals being physically destroyed, again, all for a very trivial reason.
In the end, meat production is one of the most harmful processes on the planet. It is almost as "deadly" as a top-rated killer disease. When global warming becomes prominent in the world, it will be only because of it being heavily and majorly boosted by the meat industry. Cows annually 110 tons of methane, which traps more CO2 than humans do themselves with factories and vehicles and such, so there is a direct link to that and the fact that the lad and energy usage will double in the next decades. There are numerous pieces of evidence of which animals are being tortured, and PETA, and WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) have reported many such cases. But it won't make any difference what the stats scream at us, because they are after all, just stats. So if we want to fix this problem, we need to change the meat industry.
