Disclaimer: I do not own Teen Wolf
Isaac stared out the window from his seat on the school bus. He was trying to gather his thoughts together. He just couldn't accept the fact that Derek was dead. The alpha was one of the strongest werewolves Isaac had known. Derek was an excellent fighter and used his brains as much as his strength. Isaac recalled the time that Derek won the fight against Scott at the ice rink. Derek did a number on Scott, and Scott was no pushover. That much could be seen by the way Scott easily beat Isaac and Erica. In many ways, Scott reminds Isaac of Derek. Both are excellent fighters, cunning, and have a sense of authority. Isaac admires Scott the way he admires-admired-Derek.
Isaac remembered the last conversation he had with his alpha. It wasn't a pleasant one-Derek basically kicked Isaac to the curb. Isaac begged Derek to stay at the loft-Isaac's home-, but Derek was insistent that Isaac leave. He claimed that taking care of two teenagers was too big of a burden to bear, but Isaac could easily tell that was a lie even if Derek's heartbeat remained steady. Derek wouldn't look Isaac in the eye when he gave Isaac his excuse for kicking Isaac out. Derek Hale felt guilty, and guilt was not a feeling that came easily to Derek.
The worst part of that night was not the fact that Derek kicked Isaac out. It was the way he kicked Isaac out. Derek threw a glass at him-exactly like his father. Isaac finds it kind of funny that even though Derek reminds Isaac of Scott, Derek reminds him of another person-his father. Both could be cruel. Both used fear to motivate people. Both threw a glass at him. It was kind of ironic, really. The last time Isaac really saw either of them alive, a glass was thrown at him.
One difference between the alpha and Isaac's father, however, is the fact that Isaac misses Derek in a different way than he misses his father. Derek is-was-like a father and brother to Isaac. He taught Isaac to be strong very much how like a father teaches his son. Derek would always look after Isaac, like the way Camden used to. Derek showed Isaac a kindness that Isaac hadn't seen in his own father since Camden died in combat. Isaac misses a past version of his father, but he misses the present version of Derek. Even though Derek triggered a bad memory, Isaac could understand that it had a reason. Isaac didn't know everything about Derek, but he knows Derek would never do that without good reason. Derek isn't-wasn't-like Isaac's father, who abused Isaac for kicks. Derek is-was-a good man, and Isaac misses him.
