Title: Cold
Summary: Hiei Warms Up Kurama!
Hiei POV
A/N: I know this idea has been done to death, but I can't resist!
"I LOATHE winter," I mumbled to myself angrily, nearly slipping on another Damn patch of ice that seemed to be on every third tree. I shook snow from my hair, feeling tiny drops of water creep down my neck; while it wasn't snowing as hard as it had been when I'd stepped through the portal, it was still an annoying inconvenience. I contemplated melting it as I went along, using tiny bursts of flame, but Kurama had told me last winter that it would cause a mild commotion, what with humans having very little, if not zero, knowledge of demons. Most of them thought we were fake, amusing , but also disgusting. So, I bore the awkwardness of having my feet slide beneath me. ...it didn't help that human winters affected the setting of the Sun.
Finally, without burning anything down in fury, I reached our home. I tapped the snow off my boots, shook my head to rid it of any lingering flakes; the fox would not appreciate puddles. I sighed, suddenly feeling very tired, and opened the door quietly.
All the lights were out. Unusual. Kurama almost always left the hallway light on. He'd been doing so when we first moved in, due to my bumping into furniture and the staircase; I don't accommodate change well, if at all. I blinked, finding the darkness and silence eerie. I hadn't noticed all the noises electronics made, but apparantly the power had gone out. I confirmed this by flicking the light switch, and receiving no change.
Where were those Damn lampweeds when I needed them?
I stretched, cracked my neck as I made my way upstairs, the smooth wood cold beneath my fingers. The bedroom door was open slightly; it creaked loudly as I pushed to reveal a lump beneath a quilt.
I removed my cloak, set in on the chair, trying to make as little noise as possible. I didn't want to wake him-
"Welcome home, love."
...Unless that is, he was already awake.
"Thank you," I said softly, changing into my pajamas that my partner had left on the desk for me. Shiori had given them to me as a human tradition; they were black and blue, softer than any of my other clothes.
"When did the power go out?" I crawled onto the bed. Kurama did not move from his snug position, "around ten o clock, I believe," I saw the glow of his watch, "so...roughly four hours ago."
"Explains the chill," I plopped down, sighing contently as my head hit the pillow. I finally admitted that some human comforts were very useful, and I knew I was becoming spoiled by them. "Did the meeting go alright?" Slowly, he wriggled out from his cocoon, revealing frizzy hair and flushed cheeks, "Yes it went quite well. Hatanaka actually gave me a bonus check for the blueprints. I finished yesterday; it will be on the account by morning." I nodded, nit really knowing which designs he was talking about, since there were so many. The Account referred to the bank. Kurama had decided to put it in both our names, though I rarely needed human currency.
Yawning, my fox snuggled down into the blankets, "I'm glad you're home," he whispered. I leaned forward, kissed his forehead, "Kurama, you're freezing!" "Well, it's cold," he laughed, "it IS five below, after all." Snorting, I pulled him to my chest.
"Why-" I raised my temperature, smiling as he laughed and nuzzled the hollow of my throat, "Ah my lovely warm Hiei...thank you," he sighed. "Ha. Should have said something earlier. Stupid, freezing yourself over stupid pride."
"You're one to talk," he whispered, already dozing off. I took a deep breath, my eyes heavy.
"Goodnight, fox. I love you."
"Love you."
