He saw it coming; he knew the moment Hinata jumped in front of Naruto that it was going to happen. He tried to move, tried to yell a warning, but nothing came out. The world around him seemed to slow down as he saw his genius student move. "Neji!" he shouted, but it was far too late. Neji had jumped in front of Hinata to shield her and Naruto from the enemy's… no… Obito's, attack.

"Neji!" Lee shouted before rushing to the scene, quickly followed by Tenten. He should follow, but he can't. Not because of the shock, but the guilt. The guilt was already eating away at his heart and soul.

"Gai," he felt a gentle pressure on his shoulder and didn't have to turn to know it was his rival. "Gai?" Was this what it felt like to lose a teammate and know it was your fault? He had never lost anyone, his Genin team was still alive and well. "Gai, snap out of it," Kakashi shook him, trying to get his attention.

"No, this is all his fault," he whispered, fists clenched so hard his palms bled from his nails digging into flesh. "Obito!" he shouted, startling all those nearby, all except Kakashi. Gai felt rage building up, needing to vent on something, or someone, but Kakashi's grip on his shoulder only tightened. "Let go of me," Gai ordered. He had to open the Eighth Gate, he had to make Obito suffer, but Kakashi refused with a shake of his head.

"No, we have to stick with Shikaku's plan, losing our heads now will only bring more death," how can he be so calm? Not too long ago he was letting himself get beaten by Obito, willing to die without a fight, Gai thought.

"I know what you're feeling," Gai turned to Kakashi to disagree but stopped, he saw a spark he hadn't seen since their ANBU days, the look of a cold-hearted assassin. Kakashi's desire to save Obito was gone and grim determination had set in. "We can't rush him in a blind rage, but don't worry," Kakashi turned his focus on his former best friend, "We will take him down, together."

This was originally a gift for thisloser, a fellow KakaGai fan on LiveJournal. So I didn't intend on posting this here, however, after reading chapter 616 and being very disappointed with Gai's reaction when Lee started crying over Neji, I figured I'd post how I would think he'd react.

I also posted this since I've been pretty inactive on the site posting wise. I am still alive people, I've just lost inspiration for Powers of Light and as for Following the Life of the Copy Ninja, I have no idea where to go now that my plans for Rin and Obito have been destroyed and i don't want to challenge obvious canon. (i did plan on Obito being Tobi, but not in the way it happens in the manga). I do have the next oneshot almost finished for Ninken Alliance though. I WILL NOT abandon Ninken Alliance, no matter how long it takes i will complete it! (I'm also working on some cover art for that story as well).

As for what I've been up to, i'm getting ready to FINALLY graduate from college for Graphic Design! I just have a couple classes left. I've also been sucking into the world that is The Walking Dead and absolutly love Daryl, Glenn, Maggie, and Michonne (i think i've just sentenced these characters to death though, since things don't tend to end well for my favorite characters, just look at my record of fav characters on NCIS and in Harry Potter if you need proof lol). The other reason for my inactivity is I've been focused on reading Daryl centric fanfics in my spare time XD. Daryl is actually surpassing Kakashi as my fav male character in popular media... now isn't that a scary thought lol
