Dancing

In one of Hogwarts' many corridors, on the fifth floor, on Christmas night, Luna Lovegood was dancing. She was whirling from left to right, the edge of her dress brushing the portraits on the walls. Occasionally jumping up into the air, because she loved that one instant of weightlessness before she fell back to the ground. She enjoyed the delighted gasps of Sir Arthur, a lovely portrait of a charming knight. She liked him because he was always nice to her.

Luna frowned as she was reminded of all the people who weren't nice to her, but she quickly shook her head and got rid of that thought. Nobody would bother her tonight. All the younger students had gone home and all the older ones were at the Yule Ball. Luna herself wasn't allowed to go to the Ball, because you needed to have a partner. Of course she didn't have one, who would want to go with Loony Lovegood? But that was fine, she could have fun on her own.

Alone, no one around to make fun of her silly dress made of colourful quills, dancing to music that existed only in her imagination, with just the portraits as an audience, Luna felt happy.

After all, she thought as she glimpsed a crying girl run past, who would want to be with people that only want to hurt you?

Notes: Pretty short, but I didn't really know what else to add, and it felt fine the way it was. It doesn't really have fancy words and descriptions, but that's how I wanted this to be. Something simple.

Many thanks to Lissy for betaing, and also to Lynn for quickly looking it over.
