Disclaimer/A/N: I don't own FMA. This is my first attempt at this type of fic. No pairings. Please be kind, I am not very good at this kind of thing.

I thought for sure he came this way . . .

The sound of water rushing water seemed unusually loud. Panic filled his being as he ran toward it. A loud splash had scared him.

He couldn't have fallen in, right?

As he neared the river's edge, he saw no one, nothing. If Alphonse had been there he . . .

Maybe he didn't come here.

Something was wrong. It wasn't like him. His brother always came to the river's edge after they fought.

"You really don't care, do you?"

"What?" Edward asked his brother.

"You don't care how much it was going to hurt me?" Alphonse asked him.

"What the hell do you mean?"

"You were hiding the fact that you were sick this whole time?!" Alphonse asked, angry. Edward knew if his brother had a normal body, he would look angry.

"It's not that bad. I feel fine." Edward forced a smile, trying to reassure his younger brother.

" Brother, that's a lie. Do you remember Mom!?" Alphonse yelled. Before the older Elric got to reply, his brother was running into the distance.

By the time he reached where he thought Al would be, he was out of breath. Despite what he told Al, he felt horrible. He didn't have time to wait around. He had to move on.

"Alphonse!?" He called. The bank of the river looked as though something big had been there.

"Alphon-" He couldn't finish before coughing.

It's all my fault!

He felt tears welling up in his eyes. If he hadn't been stupid and followed his own mother's footsteps, then Al wouldn't be. He called him, again, and again, but no reply. He was starting to panic, his thoughts had completely ceased. His eyes were wide and he started to run for the river. He fought the sickness and used all his energy to reach the river. He jumped in after him. At that moment, the sound of water was louder than ever. His auto-mail prevented him from reaching the surface. The feeling of constriction filled his lungs. He was going to drown.

I'm gonna die . . . I'm an idiot . . .

Suddenly, air filled his lungs and a blinding light filled his eyes. He gasped for breath. He was pulled back onto the ground.

"Brother! That's not going to help your sickness!" Alphonse Elric told him. Edward's mind was foggy.

"Al . . . I thought you . . . I . . . " His throat hurt. He couldn't speak. He coughed again.

"It's okay brother. Just rest. Let's go back to Winry's." His brother said.

"I'm sorry . . . " Edward said softly. He fell asleep in the protective arms of his brother.

They would be all right, as long as they had each other. After all, they were al they had.

A/N: I know, not my best work. This was written because I remembered something that happened to me. My brother fell in a river once, even though it was only like two minutes, it seemed like hours. I have never been so afraid before, honestly. FYI, Al never fell in the river, Ed just over-reacted. Might update if people like it.
