AN: This is something really short that i know isn't my best work but it was bugging me. I wrote in like twenty minutes...

Ballroom

"Lorelai Gilmore! I want you downstairs and ready to go in two minutes" Emily Gilmore yelled up the stairs.

Lorelai huffed and went back to her book, Animal Farm, she didn't really like reading but at least she didn't have to deal with her parents. She knew it would anger her mother when she wasn't downstairs in a minute, but she didn't care that day. She refused to attend another ridiculous class attempting to teach her to dance so her parents could show her off at another stupid function with the intention of finding her a husband. She didn't want a husband, boys were yucky, she was only ten after all.

"Lorelai! You're not dressed, why aren't you dressed?" Emily shrieked as she burst into the room to find Lorelai lounging on her bed. "Up, now. The maid just made this bed too. Get dressed or we'll be late"

"I'm not going Mom" Lorelai protested as her mother dragged her toward her closet pulling a pale purple dress and shoes from the closet and pressing them into Lorelai's hands.

"I'm your mother, Lorelai. You will do what I say. Ballroom dancing is an important skill, you will go to lessons until you can follow a lead." Her mother told her "If you're not downstairs in five minutes I'll be back" she added on her way out of the room. Lorelai groaned and pulled the dress on, wondering if ten was too young to move out of home.

"This is Lorelai Gilmore, she's here for ten o clock ballroom classes." Emily told the receptionist.

"Right through there" she told them not looking up. Emily scoffed as the treatment by the young blonde and led Lorelai through to the ballroom.

"I have errands. I'll pick you up in two hours"

Lorelai entered the ballroom alone, as she always seemed to be. She sat herself down on a chair in the corner watching as a group of girls stood in the centre of the large ballroom giggling excitedly. The boys stood off to the side in two groups, one group excitedly awaiting the lesson, the other slouching in the corner.

"Everyone find a partner" the dance instructor told them. The enthusiastic boys made their way to the main group of girls, while the other boys stayed in the corner hoping to remain invisible. Lorelai stood and sauntered to the boys slouching in the opposite corner.

"You're dancing with me" she told a particularly geeky boy, standing at the edge of the group before she pulled him away. "I hate people with money" she told him situating them as far from the rest of the group as possible.

"You have money, don't you?" the boy asked confused.

She nodded "I've seen what it's done to my parents. They're snobs. I don't want to be like that"

"You shouldn't talk about your parents like that" the boy told her, before the instructor cut in demonstrating a series of steps that Lorelai tried hard not to laugh at. She liked dancing, but the kind

in movies, where the people were passionate about each other. Dancing was supposed to be fun, this wasn't fun, it was awkward.

"You're not bad" he told her nervously after ten minutes of awkward silence.

"Neither are you" she replied smiling.

Almost two hours later the pair pulled away from each other gratefully.

"Lorelai, hurry up, I don't want to be late for my DAR luncheon"

"That's your mother?" the boy questioned in a whisper.

Lorelai nodded.

"Bye Lorelai"

"Bye... ?"

"Chris" he supplied. She nodded politely.

"You're not like the others" she whispered to his retreating back.
