Maureen stood staring at the words Mark had written. He was gone now, just like everyone else. Angel,Collins, Mimi and Roger had died from the AIDS virus and Benny had died in a car accident earlier this morning. His wife Allison who was pregnant survived the crash. Her and Joanne were the only ones left of the New York family they had come to know and love.
"He's really gone." Maureen said turning and looking towards her lover.
"I know, I can't believe he would do such a thing." Joanne replied walking over and wrapping her arms around her lover.
"It's my fault, I know it." Maureen said looking down at the ground, a tear slipped down her cheek.
"No, it's not your fault."
"You know pookie, i've been thinking."
"About what?" Joanne asked puzzled.
"Our lives." Maureen replied looking towards the window.
"Maureen."
"It's just us now and I don't want it to be."
"what are you implying?"
"Let's jump."
"What? Maureen your crazy."
"No, I want it like the old time, I want our family."
"Maureen, I wish they were alive too, but suicide is crazy."
"Please Joanne."
"Wait is this really about our friends? You didn't want to die until Mark did. You still loved him didn't you?" Joanne asked moving away from Maureen slightly.
Maureen turned away from her looking back at the words on the wall.
"Well...did you?" Joanne asked impatiently.
"Pookie I love you and only you. Think about it, what do we have left? Our friends are dead and ever since you lost your job we are running out of money. I'm jumping with or without you." Maureen exclaimed stepping over to the window and opening it.
"Take me or leave me Maureen?" Joanne said holding out her hand.
Maureen stepped over to her and took her hand and touched her cheek with her other hand.
"Of Course I'm going to take you. I love you Joanne."
"I love you too Maureen."
"Ready"
"I think so." Joanne said nervously.
"One leap of faith remember ? That's all it takes for use to be in paradise and with our friends. Let's jump over the moon and have no worries at last." Maureen told her.
"Right" Joanne answered.
They walked to the window and onto the balcony.
"One leap of faith." They chimmed over and over again.
Maureen looked at Joanne who looked back at her smiling. With that one leap of faith, they were gone.
Now at heavens gate stood eight angels, eight friends. Angel Dummot Shunard, Thomas Bayne Collins, Mimi Maria-Celeste Marquez, Roger Franklin Davis, Benjamin Phillipe Coffins III, Marcus Micheal Cohen, Maureen Evangeline Jefferson, and Joanne Leanne Jefferson. Reunited for eternity, they were happier then ever. Nothing could tear them apart now. They would sing throughout the heavens for eternity.
"Vive la vi boheme"
