Quiet was the last thing you could describe the Smash mansion as, and to do so was insanity within itself. The mansion was absolute chaos, with yelling and crying and somebody screaming in agony, yet, Dark Pit had grown accustomed to this lifestyle. Although he was a quiet soul, he was a quiet soul that could appreciate madness, and somehow, smash was the perfect balance between crazy and normal, how that worked he had no idea.
However, there was one person who, throughout the chaos and madness, managed to be the calmest and seemingly most normal, and this boy was Lucas. Dark Pit could confidently call Lucas his best friend, but if you asked to say why, he could only say:
"He's really nice"
Of course, there was way more to it than that, but Dark Pit couldn't just pin point exactly why they were so close, and if he were to list his exact reasons, they'd be the same as everyone else who was friends with the psychic. No, him and Lucas had a connection that was weird, they clicked in ways that they didn't with everyone else.
"We got a match in an hour"
The angel groaned as he lay his head on Lucas' thighs, whom was reading a book by Agatha Christie, "damn, I was planning to have a free day, but I guess I gotta get off my ass now"
"Yeah, because I need to get off mine"
The two found themselves chuckling at the joke "nah, you're warm" the angel hummed as he looked back "I don't wanna"
Lucas let out an exhasperated sigh "Kuro it's called a pillow-"
"Why do that when I can lie on the flesh of my friend?"
This was one of their usual exchanges, they didn't always joke around, but when they did it was fun for the both of them. Dark Pit looked over at Lucas, who had that same serene facial expression he always wore, something about the blond was just so calm, he radiated a kind aura, no wonder the Luma's loved him so much. his eyes were a soft, cottony blue, along with his gently tanned skin that was covered in chocolate freckles. He also had really soft hair, the type you'd run your hands in. Everything about him was so... soft.
Except his personality.
Lucas was anything but soft, kind and selfless, yes, but soft? No. Lucas was smart and sharp, able to call out BS in that calm yet harsh tone of voice he'd use whenever Dark Pit fucked up, he could easily overpower somebody if he just found their weakspot and was certainly a psychic prodigy. Assuming Lucas was a pushover due to his personality was definately a mistake one would heavily regret making.
Dark Pit liked that about him.
Another thing he liked was how strong Lucas was, almost everyone knew what he had been through, and every once in a while they'd step on a nerve, but never had Lucas actually cried or taken it out on anyone. He always shrugged it off with a forgiving smile and changed the subject. Even Ness hadn't seen Lucas cry, and they had been friends for way longer than him and Dark Pit had.
He wondered if he could be strong like that.
"We should start training" Lucas began, closing his novel "because if we lose this we're screwd"
Dark Pit smirked "in what context?"
Lucas raised a finger, an amused smile creeping it's way onto his face "Damatte kudasai, Kuro-kun"
Dark Pit dramantically raised his arms "well I don't know what that means now do I?"
Lucas stood up and playfully hit his head with the book "figure it out nerd, now I'm gonna go and train so I don't make a fool out of myself"
Dark Pit laughed, standing up "not if I do first you double nerd!"

The match was like many other matches, except Dark Pit faced a horrible defeat by the hands of Lucas. When he left the smash dome, he saw his blond friend sitting on a bench, drinking a bottle of water. he watched as Lucas gently drank the water, sitting back and attempting to catch his breath from all the fighting he had to do, he couldn't help but notice how good the years had been on Lucas, he had seemingly outstaged in everything except height, but luckily Dark Pit was a few inches taller than him so there.
Still, Lucas did admittedly look really, really attractive now. He'd gone from this stubby looking kid to this mature looking and toned teenager, he wasn't super muscular like some smashers, but he wasn't a stick either. He looked like he took care of himself, something Dark Pit couldn't relate to. This made sense though, Lucas had an ungodly routine of waking up at six and jogging with Samus for about two hours, only to spend an hour at the gym, eat breakfast and go back for an hour.
Of course he was healthy, but he was fucking nuts too.
So of course, what better way to congradulate your friend on a good match won than sneaking up on them?
He walked slowly towards the unsuspecting teen, before holding his shoulders suddenly "sup?"
"Kuso no jigoku-" Lucas spat before looking back at Dark Pit "Kuro! Don't fucking do that!" he laughed, putting a hand to his chest "you scared the asian into me"
The two shared a laugh, sitting beside each other, Lucas then smirked at Dark Pit and took his thin and pale hands into his own tanned ones "you're so boney, but I'm not shocked because you barely eat!" Lucas pouted with a finger "one day we're going to my village and we'll stuff you up!"
Dark Pit moaned "Luuuke I just don't feel hungry-"
"Nonsense! Eat! That's it, we're going out and eating at an unhealthy food place right now!"
"But Luuuuuuuuke-"
"No buts!"
Dark Pit couldn't contain his smile, sure he usually hated it when people pointed out that he looked like a living rotton corpse but he just couldn't get mad at Lucas. Then again, standing next to each other there was a clear difference. Lucas looked clean, healthy and full of life, whilst Dark Pit was pale, lanky and looked five seconds away from collapsing.
Damn, Lucas was really out of his league.
"Maybe you need to start jogging, you could go with me and Sammy-"
"I am not waking up at six in the morning to jog" Dark Pit quickl quipped.
Lucas stuck his tongue out "well ya should! Anyway, I have a match in about fifteen minutes, so I'm probably gonna train for a bit"
Dark Pit sighed "ah nuts, mines in an hour and a half, and I am NOT training for that long"
Lucas chuckled, letting go of Dark Pit's hand and standing up "well, I'm gonna go to the gym, see ya"
"Bye" and with that, Lucas was off.
Dark Pit was alone again.
He made his way through the mansion halls, not exactly sure what he should do, he wasn't hungry so he wouldn't eat, and nothing seemed to spark interest in him. He wanted Lucas' company, which he sadly wouldn't be getting for a little while, Dark Pit would admit that he had grown a bit of a dependance on Lucas and really didn't like it when the two were apart. It may have been weird, but Dark Pit didn't mind at all.
He slid into the "chilling room" a.k.a and empty room that the others turned into a room to chill and hang out in, he found himself slipping onto the couch with a heavy exhale and looked up ay the ceiling "ay, if it isn't Pittoo"
God dammit "what's up Pit?"
The pure angel sat with his back leaning on the couch and looked back at his darker counter part "nothin', just wanna know if you're good since, ya know, we barely talk anymore..." Pit said, his voice becoming a mumble as he spoke.
"Sorry, I've just been-"
"Hanging out with Lucas a lot? I know, and I'm glad you have a friend, it just feels like I'm being tossed aside" he then crossed his arms "how can I be the annoying twin brother if my own brother is never around?"
"We aren't brothers" Dark Pit groaned.
"We practically are!"
As much as Dark Pit wanted to be annoyed, his face contorted into and amused smirk. Sort of like Lucas, Dark Pit couldn't get truly mad at Pit, annoyed yes, but over time he stopped losing his cool over Pit's antics. The two sat for a while, conversing and such, before they heard a rather loud voice from the speakers.
Master Hand.
"ALL FIGHTS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE, I REPEAT, ALL FIGHTS POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE"
"What the-" before the angels had the chance to question it, someone rushed in. It was one of the inklings, she seemed to be the rather orange one. She pasued right in front of him and gave him a face that was mixed with both panic, fear and slight pity.
"Dark Pit! I came to you to ask but do you already know?" she panted, holding her chest in an attempt to catch her breath.
"Know? Know about what? What happened?"
She looked over at him, biting her lip a bit "so...? What's up, Amber? Why did Master Hand cancel the battles?" He egged on.
Amber looked to the floor before exhaling, speaking once she did so "there was a stage malfunction"
"Is that all? Those happen all the time" Pit snorted.
"No, this time it was really bad... Lucas and Incineroar were battling and-"
Dark Pit's breath hitched "Lucas?"
Amber reluctantly nodded "the protective dome stop working and Lucas got hit really bad, he's in the infirmary-"
Before she could even finish, Dark Pit was gone.

Dark Pit ran through the halls, occasionally pushing other smashers out of the way, he barged passed a particularly annoying group of Luma's who wanted to see how their friend was doing, Dark Pit didn't care though, he was there for Lucas. When he walked in, he saw a sad yet heartwarming sight.
Lucas, whom was covere in bandages and stitches, was gently patting a wimpering Incineroar on the head, smiling with that same calm and kind smile he always wore, as if he weren't injured. "Rory, it's okay... it was an accident, you didn't mean to, I forgive you" he spoke softly. The pokemon sniffled and continued to nuzzle Lucas around his stomach and waist, whining like an upset puppy "it really is okay Rory, don't be so worried"
"Lucas!"
Lucas looked over to where Dark Pit was standing, his right eye was being covered by a bandage so he had to turn to see him "oh, hey Kuro, what's up?"
Dark Pit slumped beside him in a slight fit, shaking. He looked at Lucas up and down, his eyes widening as he noticed the shear amount of bandages and stitches were on him "w-what happened? All I heard was you got hurt really bad and..." Dark Pit went quiet and placed his forehead on one of Lucas' thighs, his shaking getting worse "haaa... aaah..." he exhaled shakily.
Lucas gripped his hands "inhale through your nose, exhale out your mouth" he watched as his friend held his hands tightly, trying to bring himself down from the panic attack he had triggered himself into "take all the time you need, I'm sorry for scaring you like this"
Dark Pit already saw himself as fragile, as someone who could easily be broken, but he couldn't get over the fact that his best friend, who was currently in hospital after being charred by a giant tiger pokemon, was the one comforting him in that moment.
Lord he was weak.
A few minutes had passed, Incineroar had left, and Dark Pit's shaking died down, he managed to look up at Lucas, who was running his hands through the angels hair gently, something that always seemed to helo calming him down "you're... hurt" was all Dark Pit could muster.
"I can PK Lifeup, I should be out in a few days" Lucas hummed.
"You're burnt"
"I can tell Kuro, I am very burnt, but with my healing and some help from others, it won't be long till I'm out" Lucas reassured.
Dark Pit put his head back down "I'm staying"
Lucas smiled, still patting his head "do as you wish"
