Jeff reflects after a near-miss almost takes Alan's life. Drabble.

A/N: It was my goal to write this without speaking in short sentences... Let me know what you think! Under 150 words. My first piece that short!

Some days it's all I can do to breathe in and breathe out.

You know the days.

You've just been told your worst nightmare has happened.

One of your kids has been in a car accident… they're in the hospital.

That happened to me today.

Alan Tracy, my son, was riding on the bus for some harmless fun on a school trip.

That was what it was supposed to be.

But then a drunk driver slammed into the car door.

I had been fighting with Alan the night before – I was quite angry with him. I can remember how furious I was with him.

And now, as I sit by his bedside and wait for him to regain consciousness, all I can think is, Dear God, thanks for giving me another chance.

So I breathe in, and breathe out... and I watch him breathe too.

If you liked it, please leave feedback! This is my first attempt at this short in this category and I'd love to know what you think.
