"Hey Porcelain. What are you doing here? I thought you would be in New York by now?" yelled Sue Sylvester to Kurt Hummel's retreating back.
Kurt stopped in his tracks and turned around. "Oh hey Coach. I'm just dropping Blaine off". He ignored the New York question. It wasn't as though he hadn't acknowledged his NYADA failure, he just hated telling people and seeing the pity in their eyes – though he knew Sue would show no pity.
"Well come to my office, I want you to meet someone" Sue said, disappearing back into her room.
Kurt sighed and trudged to Coach Sylvester's office. The sight he was met with astounded him. Sitting at the desk was Sue – a beautiful baby, no more than a few days old, in her arms. Kurt gasped as Sue stood up, carrying the baby in her arms.
"Porcelain, I would like you to meet my daughter Jean" said Sue, looking lovingly at the child.
Kurt's breath caught in his throat as he heard that Sue had named her daughter after her late sister. "She's precious" he half-whispered.
"Yeah, she is" agreed Sue, a smile almost splitting her face in two.
"You're a good women Coach. I know you hide behind this gruff exterior but it doesn't fool me. I really admire you, Coach and I think you'll be a great mother." And with that, he leaned in and gave an unsuspecting Sue a hug.
Sue stiffened a little but returned the hug. "Thanks Porcelain."
Kurt chuckled. The nickname would never die.
"Do you want to hold her?"
Kurt's face lit up. "I would like nothing better."
Sue cautiously handed over the baby. Kurt held her in his arms like she was made of glass. The baby gave a soft cry, but Kurt just cooed at her. "It's alright Jeanie. Your Mommy's right here."
Jean visibly relaxed in Kurt's arms. She grabbed onto Kurt's hand and onto his pinkie finger. Kurt just smiled at her.
"So what happened to New York?" Sue asked pulling Kurt back into the present.
"Oh, I didn't get into NYADA." Said Kurt still looking at the baby.
"I'm sorry Porcelain. Any other options?" asked Sue, uncharacteristically concerned.
"Not yet. Still working on it" said Kurt, tearing his gaze away from Jean. "I didn't apply to any other schools. I'm not sure about Performing Arts any more, though. I was thinking about fashion.
"Fashion, huh? Sounds good. What does your Dad think?
"He told me to go for it – if it's what I really want to do"
"And what do you think?"
"I'm not sure. I think I'll talk it over with Blaine."
"Ah yes, Other Gay"
Kurt chuckled. "Why do you never call any of us by our names?"
"Because it's more fun that way. I thought you knew me by now. And plus I can't remember all your names"
They were silent for a moment, then Kurt said "So, you gonna tell me who the father is", he gestured to the now sleeping baby in his arms.
"All in good time, Porcelain. All in good time." Sue smirked.
Kurt grinned at her, then looked at his watch. "Well I better go" said Kurt handing over the baby. "Mr Schue – I mean Will- asked me to help him with todays lesson plan for Glee Club"
"Ok, Porcelain. Drop in and sedee me before you leave."
"I will Coach. Thanks for the chat and letting me meet Jean."
Kurt left thinking that that baby had definitely changed Sue for the better.
