Chapter 1: training
Phillip smiled as he made his way to magician's end, after Magnus had talked to him about being a magician, he couldn't wait until he could see Magnus again. That morning there had been a letter telling him to go to Magicians end at half past three. When
got there Magnus was there floating a few inches off the ground with his hands spread out. Phillip opened his mouth but no sound came out as he watched Magnus in meditation.
"Your late," called out Magnus.
"Ssorry," stammered Phillip still in awe.
Slowly Magnus touched down and threw Phillip a heavy tomb. Phillip caught it and looked questionly at Magnus.
"Read it," Magnus said.
"How were you flying?" said Phillip.
"You'll learn in time," replied Magnus.
"What's the book about?" asked Phillip.
"You and your questions," said Magnus, "you'll know when you read the book."
"Can you teach me how to fly yet?" Said Phillip.
With a clap of his hand Magnus replied "no," and vanished.
That night Phillip was reading the book that Magnus had given him. It talked about how the mind could control things around you with the right discipline and about the greater and lesser path and that they don't exist, that a magicians powers are limited by the magician and lots more about magic and the like. In the bottom left corner on the back of the cover was a name Phillip had to squint to see the name and when he read it, it read 'Pug'. He was fascinated how his nickname was a magicians and that he was apprenticed to a magician. The next day he got another letter from magnus that told him to go the gate and wait for him. Phillip did as asked and a few minutes later Magnus walked through the gate. The guards looked at him strangely and made the sign to ward off evil, but Phillip just smiled. Magnus lead him into the forest and in the middle of a clearing was a hut.
"From now on come here every second day for training," said Magnus.
"Ok," replied Phillip.
They walked towards the door and it opened on its own like a haunted house. In the hut there was no light except from a window. There was a fireplace and two doors leading to a toilet and bedroom. Outside rain started to fall and the clouds blocked out the sun, making the whole hut darker. Suddenly the fireplace ignited, red and orange flames filled the interior of the hut with a cheery glow.
"Open the door," said Magnus and as phillip started walking over he said, "with your mind."
Phillip replied, "how?"
"You read the book didn't you?"
"Yes I did,"
"Then channel all your concentration into picturing in your mind the door opening."
Phillip did and the door started to creak open before Phillip gasped out of energy and began to grow sleepy.
"Good," said Magnus.
Magnus took Phillips hand and Phillip saw that he was in his room on the top floor of his family's house before he fell asleep. Magnus put him into bed and disappeared back to the hut. He closed the door and went to his room where he went to sleep.
