Percy Weasley was worried. Mr Crouch hadn't been seen in weeks and, although he was putting on a brave face, he was worried. Not for Mr Crouch. Percy was worried about his job. He had come back to Hogwarts to represent Mr Crouch in the Triwizard tournament. He was quite enjoying being back at school. It was… homely.
That night Percy had gone up to the astronomy tower to watch the stars and to think about his dilemma. Little did he know, he was being followed by his two most mischievous brothers.
Fred and George had asked Harry if they could borrow the marauders map to spy on Percy. He had chuckled and handed it over. So now they were in the shadows of the astronomy tower at two 'o clock in the morning wondering what the hell their boring brother was up to. Maybe he was going to throw himself off the tower. They should probably stop him if he was going to do something like that. Their mum would go mad and, besides, they didn't hate him that much. He was just so easily irritated.
There were footsteps coming from behind. Mr Cornelius Fudge, the minister of magic himself was walking through the door. All three redheads subconsciously straightened up as he entered. "M-minister. What are you doing here at this time?"
"I might ask you the same question. Mr Weasley,"
"This is a good place to think."
"Indeed it is. I couldn't sleep myself. I've got all sorts of complaints for letting Potter compete. Wait a second. You're Crouch's assistant aren't you?"
"Yes, sir!"
"I don't suppose you know where he is?" Percy looked as if about to say something but no sound came out. Puzzled, he tried again.
"Well then, do you or don't you?" Fudge asked while looking a more than a little cross with the young Weasley.
Little did they know that Fred had, shortly before, recognised a stroke of genius. He had placed a non-verbal silencio on Percy. Now he and a rather bewildered George (for he had not yet realised what was going on) were sitting back and enjoying the show.
"Say something Weasley. For gods sake man. Didn't you say he'd been sending you instructions?" Percy nodded eagerly. After all, he had no way of getting Mr Crouch to understand.
"Hand them over then!"
But Percy couldn't. He had left them in his room to try and get away from his problems. He shook his head again.
"WHAT? What is that supposed to mean? You, boy, are never going to get anywhere in this industry by being so completely rude to the minister himself. I, myself, will personally make sure of it!" He stormed out of the room, red faced and scowling. Percy just stood there, literally, speechless. He walked, slowly and stumbling, out of the room. His face had gone very pale.
The twins could hold it in no longer. They laughed until they got to the portrait of the fat lady.
They had almost forgotten the event until, that summer; Percy came home with some great news. He had been promoted. To Junior Assistant of the Minister! The same minister who was going to, personally, make sure that he never got anywhere in the industry. Their dad seemed to think this was suspicious as well so they didn't say a word. Plus, they didn't even want to imagine how mad their mother would be!
