Dedicated to a guest reviewer, who reviewed my Robin Hood fics as well as some of my previous GMD fics, such as Basil and Olivia: The Broken Violin. This one's just an alternate version of Basil and Olivia: The Broken Violin. I decided to make this one a little lighthearted, sentimental, and at the same time, emotional. Enjoy.
Basil heaved a sigh to calm himself. As dangerous as the case was for children, he admitted that he'd been hard on Olivia and he admitted that he'd always had trouble with kids. That was until Dr. Dawson, who had been very helpful to her, decided to speak in her defense to make a compromise. "Mr. Basil, may I have a word with you?" he asked calmly.
"Yes, Dawson," Basil breathed.
"I have been very loyal to Olivia," Dr. Dawson said, "And I'd like to say that as long as she joins us, she'd be fine because she likes you and wants to learn more about you and me. She needs her father."
Mrs. Judson glared at Basil. "Well, what do you have to say to that, Basil?" Mrs. Judson asked with a scowl. "Do you want me to destroy your chemistry set or break the remains of your precious violin?"
"Alright! Alright!" Basil said. Then, he turned toward Olivia, who he wanted to make up with.
"I'm sorry about your violin being broke," Olivia said, "I never expected this to happen. Honest. I'm sure it's expensive. How about I buy you a new one? What I could've done was move the violin and then my hat."
Although he had broken the violin before, Basil blinked as if he were dreaming. It's too good to be true, he thought, then changed his tune, Or maybe… "You can once the case is closed as soon as we all search for your father together," he told her, "And I know you weren't trying to force anything on me." He patted her on the head to cheer her up for what happened earlier. "The violin's fate isn't entirely your fault, young lady. I could've moved it, too, if I could actually find a good place to put it. It shouldn't take more than two seconds. It's just been a crazy day for me and I'm not used to having children around." He sighed. He was right.
Basil turned back to Dawson, then eyed at the girl. "Hmm…maybe she will be of some use to me. Here's the deal, Olivia, do your best to stay silent and Dawson, do please try to watch her, clear? And if you have any questions or concerns, let me know." He was the first to walk out the door with Olivia following him. Dawson was the last one.
"Good luck, Basil!" Mrs. Judson called.
"Thank you!" Basil said.
AN: Thank you for reading. I thought it'd make sense somehow before Olivia opens the door and Sherlock and Watson transpire.
As for the scene where Mrs. Judson scowls at Basil in this story, that was meant to be funny, which is why I couldn't help but chuckle to myself over it. Heck, even Fidget would laugh if he was inside the house.
