THE CHILDREN OF METAL SONIC
Metal Sonic lived with his wife, Meisha, in a South Island province on planet Mobius. Many Digimon had sought asylum there in recent years, following the Eggman's destruction of a large portion of earth, causing tensions among its various inhabitants. And there had been much bloodshed. Hundreds had lost their lives or been injured since the unrest began, and this great apartheid caused the Digimon to move out into the poorer districts, now largely made up of South Island's mecha population.
Metal Sonic was in his twilight years and had no children. Several augmented male hoglets had been born to him but they all died very young. One night he looked up to the stars and saw the constellation of Andromeda: "That's strange," he buzzed, "it was only last week that I saw the constellation of Hydra in the sky." He visited an astrologer the next evening, Alimon, who said to him: "For two generations the female constellations will be ruling over your family, that's why all your male descendants die; why don't you try passing them off as females?" So almost as soon as another male child was born to him, he had the ears pierced, the hair tied in bunches, and told everyone to refer to him as Bernice. As the hoglet grew it became increasingly evident that he was far from blessed in appearance, boasting decidedly masculine features - an enormous snout, like that of lesser Digimon, Bukamon. When the time arrived, a somewhat reluctant Metal Sonic married his boy-girl mecha-hedgehog to an equally unfortunate-looking local girl-boy Digimon that, incidentally, looked exactly like Bukamon. This interspecies-transvestite couple first of all had two little boy mecha-hoglet-Digimon, and remembering the prediction of the astrologer, they gave them girls' names; Eva and Barbara – who happened to look exactly like reptilian Digimon, Agumon. Bernice and his wife then dressed them as girls which were in turn married to girl-boy Digimon, one of whom was the spitting image of Otamon, the Rookie Level Amphibian Digimon. Eventually, the population of South Island and its Digimon inhabitants learned to live together in greater harmony, and Barbara and his wife were widely championed as the personification of the unity and peace that had now been attained throughout Mobius. The constellations did not intervene and the family was thereby saved from extinction.
