Cynical love

Mai-Li Sparrow was half Chinese pirate and half Tortuga whore. When She was little she used to lie on her bed in the cellar of the faithful bride, drown out the constant noise of brawls, foot stamping and the shirking of whores; and pretend she was a the sleeping princess she'd read about, and that one day a prince would come and wake her up and they'd live in a castle and have beautiful children and live happily ever after. Twenty year old Mai-Li Sparrow was half Chinese pirate and half Tortuga whore and had long ago give up her idea's about princess', prince's and happily ever after and had settled for what she really was, the basted child of a pirate and a whore. Unlike her mother Mai had opted for a less disgusting and degrading profession and unlike her brother a less adventurous profession. The life of a pirate was not for her, but her went hat off to Anamaria.

Mai preferred to keep her feet firmly planted on the place of her birth and so she became a pickpocket and fortuneteller. She'd had a knack for tarot card and tealeaf readings ever since Jack bought a back of the cards and crates of tea back from China. She had two decks of Tarot cards. One she'd bought (or rather stole) from a merchant who stopped by regularly to trade with the whores and what ever pirated happened to be around Tortuga at the time. And her very first deck, the ones Jack had bought back for her, the old and yellowing dog-eared cards that she only used for special people. It was on the same day Mai had been thinking about her past that a storm had begun to brew a few miles off the coast of the island here Mai had lived all her life. It was on that same day that the prince of Spain, Tulio, had been sailing by with his father's army on his way to Port Royal to a ball hosted by the governor in place of his father. Prince Tulio had never believed in fairy tales and had always known his place as prince and that he would never find a woman who loved him just one who obeyed him.

Mai and Tulio were both fairly cynical on the subject on friends and lovers. Tulio had had many lovers in the passed but never put any on them past the mark of 'object for bodily pleasure' but he had never had any friends. Mai had never had any friends or lovers. Both wanted something from you and had no reason to be trusted. The only people Mai had ever trusted were her mother and her brother and even they were a 'when they're sober' case.

Mai and Tulio were cynical on love until the night a storm hit Tortuga.
