The colors on the canvas mirrored the overcast sky, a murky blue. Soubi rather liked blues and grays, particularly the ashen ones. A dab of cobalt, a dab of gray and he stepped back evaluating the painting, which for once was not of a butterfly. Instead it was of a familiar landscape, a particular someone's house, light rain cascading down its surface. He had made sure to capture the way the raindrops rolled down the balcony, rolled down that closed yet unlocked window he was so acquainted with. A smile crossed his face.
With a final stroke of the brush the painting was completed, and as he waited for the paints to dry he did as he always did, smoke. Stepping out into his terrace, taking a drag, Soubi closed his eyes and let his mind wander. The time was around noon, and Soubi mused that he must have been in lunch-period right about now. He chuckled—he was always so adorable when he ate, that face he would make because of how picky he was, how he would proclaim that he would never eat such a disgusting thing! Yet in the end the frown would turn into a reluctant smile as he found out it wasn't so yucky after all. Just thinking of his smile made Soubi happy, a different kind of happiness than he had felt with Seimei. He was gentle, so gentle, unlike his older brother and just in thinking this his hands had wandered to his throat. Beloved. And then his hands wandered to his ears, to the piercings. He was marked by both of them. He belonged to both of them. Beloved. Loveless.
Yet…
He walked back inside; there was something important he had to do. Finding his mobile, he picked it up, entered a few choice words and hit send, a smile on his face.
" Ritsuka, I love you."
