It's so obvious, it's almost disgusting.
I mean, does she really think I'm that stupid? That I don't notice the way her face lights up whenever he walks into the room? That her ears are always perked like a Great Pyrenees whenever he talks, even when he's talking nonsense? That everything he does makes her smile profusely?
And does she honestly believe that I don't notice how often she mentions him? How she always incorporates something he's said or done into the conversation? We can be talking about how spas should really donate lotion to chicken farms because plucking's got to be a BITCH on the poultry and she'll randomly say, "Yeah, like the time Spencer had the chick in his mouth? And he was in his underwear? Haha, good times," and I'll just be sitting there like, "Yeah, exactly," while REALLY thinking of how the conversation totally just DIED and how I'd love to talk about nothing but now we have to talk about my big brother and act like neither of us know what's going on in her brain. God. Oh, and does that same brain suppose that I don't notice how she watches him more closely than she watches anyone else? And her interest in even his most outlandish projects? And when they stand beside each other, does she think that I don't notice how she's always slightly leaning on him, like she's touching him in a totally innocuous way?
And OF COURSE I notice how they giggle together and, on the way back from the Frozen Oval, totally walked behind me and snickered over her temper and such, completely ignoring me. Of COURSE I noticed when she called him handsome. And of course I know why she comes over so often, even when I'm not home.
And now I'm remember that time we had a conversation about marriage – me, her, Freddie, and Spencer. Freddie was making cow eyes at me while she told Spencer how she'll never get married and him saying "why not?" and her replying with how she doesn't believe in it and him saying she'd find a guy who appreciates her as much as he does. I remember the awkward silence. And their mutual BLUSH.
Because, of course, the gross behavior isn't entirely her. The way he cares so much about everything she says, the way he regards her as more of an adult than even me (come on, she's only a year older. She's just…maimed more people than I ever will.)….God. If he isn't more than half in love with her already, he will be one day soon.
She's my best friend. He's my brother. The fact that they think I don't notice is simply insulting.
I'm not bitter, though, cause seriously…
It's so obvious, it's almost disgusting.
