Poultry

Author's note: Heya guys! What's up? I have finally decided to write a story! It's not really a story per say, more of a drabble, really. Well, enough about that, go read!

Squawk!

I exploded into existence in a billowing cloud of grey dust, my white feathers slightly ruffled by the breeze. I gave my small body a once-over to make sure all my body parts were in their place before leaving the area I had been born in.

I munched on some grass seeds pulled from the stems of tufts of wild grass that seemed to infest this area of the world. While rather bland, they kept me from squawking so darn mu- Squawk!

Damnit. So close to beating my no-squawk record of two minutes. Well, I thought to myself offhandedly, at least I'm busy. And so I walked on, chewing on seeds, completely oblivious to the dangerous presence stalking me.

-:O:-

I licked the excessively-honed blade of my sword as I stalked the small avian, drooling in anticipation of the feast I would have later. Three days with no food. That damn mineshaft really takes it out of you. I thought quietly to myself. The chicken I was following was currently observing an interesting stone formation in the ground, completely ignorant of my presence. Well, that rock formation sure is interesti- NO! No! Straying thoughts led to your demise in this land. Better to focus upon my goal; get the meat. I raised my sword above my head, using my last reserve of strength to run to the chicken.

-:O:-

It was with a sad heart that I understood what the crunching sounds I had heard early actually were, the bumbling footsteps of a man. I sighed quietly to myself, mentally preparing for my death. I heard the crunching footsteps run towards me, and finally felt the cold rod of iron cleave into my flesh, releasing the bonds that held me together, turning my back into the swirling particles of dust from which I had been born.

-:O:-

"Success!" I screamed to the empty fields around me. I had done it. I stood with my hands grasping the pommel of the sword, its blade buried in the ground where the chicken had stood just moments before, reveling in his victory.

-:O:-

He savored the moment, but failed to notice the presence that had been stalking him, much as he had the avian. In his thrill at being able to live another day, he failed to notice the large green body as it snuck up behind him until it gave its trademark HisssSSssssssSSSSSSSSSSSSsss. When the man heard it, he tried to swing his sword at the creature, but was too late by just a fraction of a second. As the man realized he was too late, the smirk of success quickly degraded into a look of pure terror.

BOOM!
