"God, Kanda, I just want it all to end." Allen says bitterly, tossing his head back as he leans against the counter.

"Want what to end?" Kanda asks, intrigued.

"You know... Everything."

Kanda finally gets it. "You... But why?"

Allen shrugs. "Life just isn't fun anymore."

"So... I'm not enough for you?"

"You're never around."

Kanda realizes just how true that is. He's always working, or practicing with his katana. He spends more time with his sword than with Allen.

"I... I'm sorry." Kanda whispers, pulling Allen into a hug. "I don't want you to end your life. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"You'd find someone else."

Kanda shakes his head. "No one will ever be you."

Allen sighs. "Maybe not, but there will always be someone better than me."

Kanda shakes his head. "Allen, I love you. Don't you ever dare forget that. I will never say that to anyone else."

Allen smiles. The smile breaks Kanda's already shattering heart, rips up the pieces in a brutally almost beautiful way.

The smile is so hollow, so incredibly empty. It's there to relieve Kanda, to lie to him.

"Beansprout..."

"I'm going to go to bed now, Kanda." Allen says, leaving Kanda's arms. If Kanda had known what was going to happen soon, he never would have let go.

Allen left to their room, falling under the sheets and back into his black hole of desperate depression, already dead to the world, but not to Kanda.

Kanda followed Allen to the bedroom, sitting mutely with his lover. Why isn't he enough for Allen? Why can't Allen just understand that he's good, that there's nothing wrong with him?

They climb under the sheets together, that melancholy silence still hovering over them. It's too quiet to be comfortable, and they settle into the sheets sadly. As Kanda closes his eyes, he promises he'll be around. He won't neglect his baka Moyashi any longer. It'll be fine, Allen will be fine if he's just around more.

But it doesn't matter what Kanda vows, because the next morning Kanda wakes up and Allen isn't beside him. His eyes are milky from the cells breaking down, his skin waxy and more pale than usual. His Moyashi is dead.
