Icarus

A/N: This is mainly just a little House thought piece. I'm not 100% pleased with the title, and I may later do another read-through and decide to change some phrasing and all, but I think it's alright for posting. I hope you like it!

Unnecessary disclaimer: None of the characters appearing in the TV show "House, M. D." belong to me.

Abstract: She couldn't teach him to fly. Angsty but hopeful House/Cameron, a bit of unforgiving House/Cuddy.

He knew his view of her was irrational. The one thing in his life that was not based in fact.

He saw her as an angel, flying high above him. The grime of the world didn't touch her.

She had tried to take his hand, to save him. Teach him to fly. But he refused. He wouldn't contaminate her. He wasn't worthy to touch her.

In his rational mind, he knew this was untrue. She had seen the pain of the world firsthand. Suffered, as he did. She wasn't above them.

And yet, his mind persisted. She was a princess locked in a lofty tower. Untouchable.

And yet, she reached down to him. Over and over. And sometimes he would reach a hand up to her, only to retract it just when he thought their fingers might touch.

Lisa was different. She had dirt on her hands already. He could not be blamed for corrupting her.

He took her unto himself. She gave of herself freely to him, handing every last bit over until she had none left. He accepted all she gave. He was greedy.

He could take her. He could dirty her. But he couldn't respect her.

And so he left Lisa in pieces. He should have felt remorse.

She was a tigress, bold, strong, vicious. She could have eaten him alive, but she rolled over like a kitten. She had no one to blame but herself.

She should have known to keep her guard up.

He was left again to admire his angel from afar while Lisa picked up the pieces.

He waited for regret but it never arrived.

His angel swooped down again to lend a hand, but he turned away. He always did.

People like him couldn't consort with angels, nor dance with tigresses. He would either fall from the sky or get eaten alive.

Like Icarus, he worked away on a pair of man-made wings, though these sort of things often failed.

But if he could create them, perhaps he could meet her in the sky one day.

He was a genius, after all.
