A War of Regret
Oda Nobunaga of Japan controlled three quarters of the world. Ever since the Industrial Revolution began in the Homeland, the Japanese went on a string of conquests. The first to fall was Napoleon, Japan's most hated enemy since they first met. Now only America remained independent by the time the Atomic Era began. Oda Nobunaga and George Washington were the best of friends. They opened their borders, traded all the time, made a Declaration of Friendship, and fought together against the Spanish and the Russians. Both Nobunaga and Washington knew that they would have to fight each other one day. It's how the world works. Unfortunately, that day has come.
Oda Nobunaga walked into Washington's study, looking solemn and sorrowful.
"Hello. What brings you here today?" Washington said, smiling amiably at the Japanese Ruler.
"Hello, my friend. It's good to see you too. But I have bad news." Nobunaga said, trying to hide the grief from his voice. Washington's face fell quickly.
"Are you meaning….?"
"Yes, my friend. We both know that one day; we will have to fight for dominance. I'm sorry to say, but that day has arrived."
Washington sat down on a chair, feeling hurt.
"I understand. We are the last two civilizations standing. I'll miss the times when we fought side by side." Washington said. Oda Nobunaga hugged Washington, who returned it.
"I shall too. But now, we must fight. Both of us will win some and lose some battles. Farewell, my friend, and may the best Ruler win." Nobunaga said as he turned to leave.
"May the best Ruler win." Washington returned. They parted, the regret between them palpable to even the stupidest of people.

Japanese-occupied Spain bordered American-occupied Russia to the north, so that's where the fighting began. The Infantry and Armored divisions of both sides clashed near Barcelona. Japanese Zeros fought the American B-17s over the frontlines. The IJN duked it out with the US Navy over the seas, most notably the Sferin Sea that divided the Homeland from American-held territories. It was a war both beautiful and ugly. The generals on both sides were regarded throughout history as brilliant strategists. This war will test each other's mettle in the Spain-Russia front. The war would last 10 years, and despite America's better sight in oncoming attacks, they could not counter the viciousness of the Bushido-indoctrinated Japanese Army. Washington DC was the last to fall in America.
Oda Nobunaga walked through the debris that littered the streets of the once great American capital. Brutal house to house fighting claimed many lives on both sides. The Japanese Ruler entered Washington's study. There was no point, but it was customary when a civ was defeated.
Washington was found looking depressed.
"You have triumphed over us. The day is yours." He said with a sad finality.
"I am sorry, my old friend. But now I control the whole world. As you always wanted, eternal peace has arrived and there will be no more war. As we had been close for the past five thousand years, I would like to appoint you as a governor for my conquered lands that used to be yours. I will ensure that you won't be imprisoned like the rest." Nobunaga said.
"Thank you." Washington replied. Oda Nobunaga hugged his former friend before leaving. A new age of complete and total Japanese control has begun.
The End
