Suddenly, Rose found herself infused with an alien mind. She could no longer control her own body. The Doctor walked over to her with a silly little grin upon his face. She felt the urge of the being controlling her, and it wasn't a friendly one. She fought and resisted, but she could not regain control. Reluctantly, she watched withdrawn in her mind as the creature followed the unperturbed Doctor into the elevator.
They headed down, down to the basement, down to the forgotten innards of the hospital where nobody resided. Down where they would be alone and the creature would have the Doctor at its mercy.
"Rose, here!" The Doctor shouted, throwing a strange device into the creature's hands, "Set the regulator to level 8, no higher, or it will fry us and stick it to that pump there!"
Rose watched as the creature turned a rather normal looking dial to eight, fearing it would just keep going and fry them, but it proceeded to follow the Doctor's directions, and attached the device to the walls of the Hospital's water pump.
Meanwhile, the Doctor was fiddling with some controls in a box about three feet away. The creature took Rose to him and stood behind the Doctor, still as a rock. The Doctor turned around.
"Something wrong Rose? You've been awfully quiet!" The Doctor pondered.
"I'm perfectly fine! Was just wondering how I could help you next!" The creature responded. No, she responded. It was Rose's voice, and her normal request to help. How could the creature know? She wondered. It was adapting to her place. It had been studying her for quite a while.
Suddenly, the Doctor's face changed. His mouth turned into a snarl.
"What have you done with Rose? ROSE!" He shouted as she internally screamed in pain. The creature was morphing into something else, and it wasn't going to leave her body first. She felt as if her very skin was being torn apart and her muscles straining to remain in place. The Doctor's sonic screwdriver did nothing as Rose slowly lost the fight for her body. The Doctor backed away, defeated, as he faced a monster that was once his very best friend.
"You…YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE JUST DONE!" He screamed, "I am the Last of the Time Lords, the Lone Survivor, the Destroyer of Worlds and I have earned those names whether I like it or not. You give me Rose back, and perhaps I won't make those names mean anything to you, but I can bring down you and your entire race. YOUR ENTIRE RACE! I WILL HUNT YOU TO THE ENDS OF THE UNIVERSE." The Doctor was in full rage.
Rose could still see through the eyes of whatever she was now. She had never seen him as such. He was like fire, burning into the monster's soul and she knew then, that there was no doubt that he loved her more than anything. He really would, the peaceful man, go out in full arms for her. She couldn't. Couldn't let him change into a monster as she had. That thought hung with her as she took one last stand.
Just as suddenly as before, the creature morphed once more, intending to take a form of flight to escape, but Rose with her increased knowledge of the creature's intent due to slowly absorbing its thoughts, infused with the power of the anger of the Doctor, forced the creature to morph differently. She imagined her family, her Doctor, and herself. The next thing she knew, a green gas flew from her mouth and the Doctor rushed to catch her as she fell into his arms, a human once more. He was crying and so was she as the monster withered away in the oxygen rich air in which it could not live.
The Doctor, without saying a word held out his hand as she pulled away from his embrace, Rose took it, and they walked upstairs and straight into the TARDIS. They found themselves back home in London and visited all of Rose's family and friends in times of laughter and fun. Both knew what saved Rose that day on New Earth. Love.
