Tadashi was busy writing his notebooks, doing drawings too as he tried to get his ideas out. Or least have them save them for later.
Still need to see if Aunt Cass will be willing to get me some tools for making stuff…
He sighed as rolled away from his desk, running a hand through his hair, looking around at his new room. It had only been two months since he and Hiro had moved in with their aunt and they were still adjusting. Tadashi was still getting over his parents' death while Hiro… he was still getting used to the new scenery… Being three… he didn't really understand what was going on around him nor did anyone want to explain to him that mom and dad were never coming back.
Where is he anyway? Hope he ain't driving Aunt Cass nuts…
He let his eyes wander around the room, trying to see if he could find a tell tale sign of his brother's bushy hair.
Crawling or walking I can always see that hair of his…
After having no success in finding his brother he decided to turn his attention back to his notebook, only to be interrupted by someone tugging at this shirt sleeve. Looking down, his eyes met with his brother's that were completely wide open.
"Hi Nii-saaaaan." he said in the creepiest voice possible.
Tadashi fell out of his chair, completely caught off guard by his brother.
"Ow! Hiro!"
The little boy giggled before sitting on top of his brother's chest.
"Got you!"
Tadashi gave a bit of a stern look but then couldn't help but laugh.
"I need to tell Cass to stop watching all those horror movies. They're rubbing off on you."
Hiro giggled again. "Can't stop me from watching them! I know how ta work the dvd playa!"
Tadashi shook his head. "For a three year old you sure have a thing for figuring things out rather quickly."
"Imma smart! You said so yourself. I get it from Momma and Dadda."
Tadashi sat up, holding his brother.
"That's right."
"Are they still on their trip?"
"Yeah…. sorry bro…"
"It's okay… I still gots you…" Hiro cuddled up to him a little. "Right?"
"Of course Otouto… you know that…"
Hiro nodded, curling up a little. "Nii-san…"
"Hm?"
"Could you sing…? Please?"
Tadashi got a worried look in his eyes.
"Something bothering you? You never ask me to sing unless it's bed time or something scared you… What's up?"
Hiro lowered his head a little. "Rememba that I took a nap earlier?"
"Yeah?"
Hiro sniffled a little. "I had a bad dweam…"
"Oh oh Hiro…" Tadashi brought his brother closer, stroking his hair.
Hiro rested his head on his chest.
"We were playing… by a river… and… and you fell in… I tried reaching for you to pull you out but… but the water pulled you away and you went under so quickly." He buried his face in his chest. "Nii-san it was awful! I was all alone!"
"Shhh…"
Tadashi rocked him gently as he got up, sitting on his bed. He continued stroke his brother's hair, laying down with him.
"I'm not going anywhere, I promise."
"Cross your heart?"
"Cross my heart." Tadashi made the motion, causing Hiro to relax a little.
He cuddled up to his brother again.
"Can you sing now…? My song?"
"Of course."
Tadashi cleared his throat as he began to hum softly. Hiro began to relax more as he started to sing.
"Brother dear brother… I promise to always be by your side…" Tadashi brought a blanket up, draping it over his brother. "Through rain and through fire… Nii-san will be here… to chase away the nightmares and bring in the dreams…"
Hiro curled up under the blanket, still keeping close to Tadashi, yawning a little.
"And when I am away I will always know… that when I return home… there you will be, waiting for me."
Hiro closed his eyes, smiling.
"I love you Nii-san…"
Tadashi smiled back, stroking his hair.
"I love you too Otouto… Sweet dreams…"
