A Mother's Lullaby

Disclaimer: FFVII belongs to Squinix. They are gods.

A/N: This fic/drabble was inspired by the song Mordred's Lullaby by Heather Dale, and an AMV by usiku.

This is set when Sephiroth is about 10 or so.

One last thing, this fic is set in the mind-set that Jenova is Sephiroth's mother and Hojo is his father.

P.S.

This is my first non-slash fic! I'm so happy I can write something other than smut

Hush, child, the darkness will rise from the deep,

And carry you down into sleep

Child, the darkness will rise from the deep,

And carry you down into sleep.

Guileless son, I'll shape your belief

And you'll always know that your father's a thief

And you won't understand the cause of your grief

But you'll always follow the voices beneath.

Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty

Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty only to me.

Hush, child, the darkness will rise from the deep,

And carry you down into sleep

Child, the darkness will rise from the deep,

And carry you down into sleep.

Guileless son, each day you'll grow older

Each moment I'm watching my vengeance unfold

The child of my body, the flesh of my soul

Will die in returning the birthright he stole.

Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty, loyalty

Loyalty, loyalty, loyalty only to me.

He had found something wonderful. He wasn't sure what it was yet, but it called to him. It was behind a heavy steel door that was sealed with multiple locks.

For days now he had gone and sat in front of the door. Someone always came and dragged him away, back to his room, back to the experiments, and Hojo was always cross with him for going near the door. He knew the man, his 'father', was hiding something from him, he just didn't know what yet.

He spent weeks trying to figure out how to get through the door. He needed to know what was on the other side, what his father was hiding from him, what was calling him.

He would have just broken the lock, but was certain that there would be an alarm of some kind if he did that.

The call to enter the room was growing stronger. He could hear a faint whispering in his mind that grew slightly louder when he was near the door. When the experiments became more painful the voice would be in his head telling him things to keep his hopes up; he would get his revenge against Hojo, he would break free of this horrid place. He had to get through that damn door!

Finally, he had his plan. It wasn't complex, but it would work, and that's what mattered. People had been going into the room more often lately. He would wait until someone pulled out a keycard and then knock them out and hide them in the near-by closet. Once he had a keycard he could go in whenever he wanted. He put his plan into action the next day.

The door slid open with a quite whir of mechanisms. Bright mako eyes peered into the room. Hesitantly the silver-haired boy stepped through the threshold, and the door slipped closed behind him. The room was surprisingly sparse, the main focus being a glass capsule with a figure captured inside. Sephiroth moved warily toward the structure. He gently laid a hand on the smooth glass and stared up at the being inside. Jenova. The name was written on a steel plate.

The voice was in his head again. Praising him for getting in, and then saying more things to turn him further against Hojo. The voice slowly trailed off, and Sephiroth sat down in front of the being that he now recognized as his Mother.

It seemed that she smiled then, but maybe it was a trick of the light.

The voice came back, only now it sang, in a soft lovely voice. Sephiroth had already been somewhat tired and now felt the need to give into sleep. The boy curled up on the cold floor in front of the softly glowing capsule and fell asleep to the melodic sound of his Mother's lullaby

A/N: Sorry that it's short…
