Disclaimer: I don't own Monk or Trudy. I don't own Dwight or Marcia either. What I own is this story

There were many things that could be said for Adrian Monk and one of them was that he was a gentlemen. When he decided that he was going to propose to Trudy Ellison he came to her parents before asking her.

"It would be wonderful to have you as a son in law," Marcia said, "you're like a son to us anyway"

"We have only one request," Dwight added

"Of course," Adrian told them, "anything"

"Understand that it is a request only instead of a condition for your engagement"

"I understand," Adrian said holding up a hand "First you should know the back-story," Dwight began, "when Trudy was 5 1/2 Marcia and I had an infant son. Trudy loved her brother very deeply but he died at just under a year "

"GOD!"
"We never had children after that," Marcia explained, "and we were hoping to keep alive the family name for one more generation at least."

"We were wondering if you might be willing to take our name"

"Of course," he told them, "it would be an honor"

They both looked both pleased and surprised that he was so willing to do that"

"Mr. and Mrs. Ellison to me a name is just a name. What maters to me are the people I love."

That night Adrian took Trudy for a walk in the garden.

"This morning," he told her, "I spoke to your parents. I asked their permission to propose to you"

"They said yes right," she pleaded

"They said it would be an honor but they want me to take your name"

"Adrian Ellison," she said testing it out, "I could get used to that"
