The Boatman's Hope
Disclaimer: I own nothing except the plot. The characters all belong to the marvellous Phillip Pullman, who taught me that time spent dreaming of another world is not wasted.
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.
Where the knowledge is free.
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls.
Where the words come out from the depths of the truth.
-Rabindranath Tagore
How many of them had he seen in the countless years he had been there, millions, billions? He didn't even remember any more.
He tried to block it all out. The screaming, the denial, the pain.
He tried not to care.
This…. Place was a waste-land, a cold, dank pit offering no comfort to those who were subjected to it. It was nothing short of a hell, the mist always clouding his vision. Making him feel numb.
So many places they had come from. Over a million different universes, so many stories to be heard. Stories of adventure, love, magic and so much more.
One day, however, this world changed forever.
He would always remember those two people more than anyone else, the fierce blonde girl and the boy who looked at her in a way he had never seen before.
Oh yes, he would always remember them, for they bought something new and pure to this land.
They bought hope.
It was like a light so bright that his immortal eyes had almost been blinded by it.
Thinking of them again, knowing that one day he would have the honour of meeting those two again, for the first time in over thousands of years, the Boatman smiled.
Wow, I actually feel really proud of this considering I wrote this rather spontaneously. What did you guys think, love it, hate it? Reviews are appreciated and I hope you enjoyed it.
