Déjà vu
If there was one thing Dean would rather not do, it would be pissing off Bobby Singer. But it was inevitable, and they needed his help. While Dean was able to stand his ground in front of a furious Bobby once, he was ready to suck in his pride this time. It didn't help at all though; not only did he and his brother screwed up and lost the cursed rabbits foot, but that it was also stolen by that bitch of a waitress- Bela Talbot. By the end of the phone conversation, his frustrations were tainted by insult when Bobby gruffly asked him to watch over Sam.
Right. As if he needed reminding. Or being told to, for that matter. Dean wasn't much of a person that extracts lessons from his mistakes (petty mistakes), but what happened with Sam at that town was not going to happen again. The fact that they were still wasting time, standing on the sidewalk was proof enough that he was keeping Sam from getting killed. What sort of bad luck could the rabbits foot throw at them, while they were safely on the sidewalk?
Dean was pretty confident as he turned around- that is, until he turned around. That thing is winning, was one of the many frantic thoughts that ran through his mind, and he tried very much to push away the nagging feeling that crept over him. The confident Sam, one who was rational of the two (Dean was willing to admit), smarter of the two, and was pretty damn good at staying calm in dire situations; that Sam was not what Dean confronted, but rather, a more defeated Sam.
Defeated, crest-fallen, and pouting. It was then that Dean felt it again, and he couldn't help but see two young boys in their stead. The tall, young Sam stretched into nothing but a shadow of his younger self, as the younger brother, while Dean was just absorbed into it; the role of the older brother.
"What?" It had to be asked.
Sam stared back at him sadly. "I lost my shoe."
It was a quiet plea for Dean not to fly off the handle, and a plea for Dean to get him out of this mess. He curled his naked toes for his older brother to see. It was uncanny, how history repeated itself. Dean only stared, and for a moment he was thinking of the right authoritative figure to solve this problem for them, but stopped himself in time. He let out a frustrated sigh, and groaned.
Next stop, the shoe store.
End
I couldn't help interpreting that scene. It's just too cute not to comment on it! Please review, and criticism is more than welcome.
