Runaway Bride
Disclaimer: What do you think?
:: A companion fic for In a Rush. Might as well do it now, before all hell breaks loose in a couple of days. I swear I'm WORRIED with a capital W-O-R-R-I-E-D.
'No it's good. I like that you speak your mind.'
And just like that he had successfully opened a gate that had been closed so long time ago she didn't even realized it was still there.
Granted, after she had so indelicately chosen her 'family' over him one and a half year ago, things between them had been a bit… strained, for lack of a better word. But so many things had happened and between long shifts, missing Lew, and another minor house renovation, she guessed she sort of had forgotten about it altogether.
The memories were securely locked in a shelf and up until this afternoon, the key to the chest had been missing. It had no intention to be found, but a simple declaration – she had stopped thinking about it as a form of appreciation—had changed that. Now the shelf's wide open and old memories, some bad and mostly good but both were equally close to her heart, were flooding out; one proudly stood out from the rest.
Sam hadn't exactly 'appreciated' her speaking her mind so vocally when they had been together. He had never said the actual words, but she had been able to read his body language and mind. Sam wasn't the most discreet of man when he's cranky. At that time she had chalked it out as one of his quirks as she had accepted that her boyfriend still possessed some of his 'boyish' arrogance. It had been kind of charming, in a way.
On the contrary, Sam, being the way he was, loved to speak his mind a little bit too much to the point of pissing their team leader and herself in more than a handful occasions. Perhaps that's one reason why he disapproved other people around him voicing their thoughts aloud; because there's a possible chance that they wouldn't be in the same wave-length.
It's probably a rookie kind of thing.
'No, it's good. I like that you speak your mind.'
'Really?'
So it's an understatement if she had been a bit surprised.
Though now that she gave it a second thought, it's not the first time Sam was being supportive that way. He had shared a similar conversation with Leah before, quite a while ago.
Guess Sam Braddock wasn't the man she used to know.
And the thought scared her more than possible.
Hearing the exclamation, staring into those deep blue eyes… it revived something inside her. She wasn't sure she wanted to find out what it was because she knew she shouldn't have had that feeling at the first place.
God blessed Spike for coming up with the numbers the time he did, or else…
It's always better to prevent that cure. She had been taught well of that.
CONCLUSION: This season Sam needs to speak his mind regarding his feelings, and Jules has to stop running away from her feelings. I think that's clear enough.
:: The question struck me as a bit odd, honestly. It sounded like something you'd ask to someone you just met, or knew for a short period of time. They slept together! This story was my take on it. Thoughts?
