Lapis is walking on the beach, in front of the beach house, thinking about recent events like joining The Crystal Gems with Peridot.

Everything is different now, but Peridot is the only thing on Lapis's mind. Her feelings towards the tech gem started to grow during the time the spent together. She even started a friendship with Peridot because both of them were staying in the same place. The friendship was nice, but something changed three days ago and Lapis wants to know what.

Back to 3 days ago, Peridot is on the couch inside of Steven's house, upgrading one of her old robonoids, while Steven is watching her work and asking random questions in the process.

"Why is your hair triangular?" Steven asks.

"Because I was made with my hair like that." Peridot answers, without really paying attention.

"Peridot?" Steven calls her.

"Yees Steven." She says, losing her patience.

"Why are your robonoids green?" Steven plays with a screw.

"Aaaaaa !" She screamed, "Because it's my favorite color! Steven, don't touch that!" Peridot removes the screw from Steven's hand.

"Can I help you?"

Peridot and Steven reach eye to eye.

"No." She answers, coldly.

"Why not?" He asks with begging eyes.

"Becau-" at that exact time Lapis walks into the house "Because you need to go with Lazuli and pick up seashells. She always needs some help with this kind of stuff."

"W-what?" Lapis asks, confused. "And since when did you start to call me Lazuli again?" She raises an eyebrow.

"Just now. So, you and Steven are going to take a walk on the beach and pick up seashells, while I will continue my work."

"Hmmm, alright." Lapis looks at Steven. "Come on little man."

Lapis and Steven walk towards the beach, it is a sunny day and there are a few seashells on the sand brought by the waves.

"Lapis?" Steven looks at her.

"Yes, Steven?"

"Why Peridot doesn't accept help that easy?"

"W-what?" She wishes she listened the wrong thing.

"Why Peridot doesn't accept when I offer my help? Today was not the first time she didn't accept it."

Well, she didn't listen the wrong words. Lapis stops what she is doing, looks at the young gem and tries to find a good answer.

"Steven, come here."

Lapis and Steven drop some shells on the sand and sit next to a rock. She gives a sad smile to the boy.

"Well, Steven, you know how Homeworld is. Over the past thousand years that planet became very 'robotic'-"

"What do you mean?" Steven interrupts Lapis.

"I mean that gems that aren't useful to the empire or who don't do their jobs are replaced by new ones in a blink of an eye. When they're replaced the only thing left is to be a shattered." Lapis sighs. "Unfortunately, Peridot lived all her existence thinking she could be replaced. Sometimes you can't notice, but Peri still needs time to remember that she isn't controlled by Yellow Diamond anymore and that she doesn't need to impress anyone." She looks at the ocean, "The only thing Peridot needs is time and comprehension." Lapis caresses Steven's head. "She rushes things."

"Poor Peri." It is the only thing Steven says.

"Ok, Steven, let's finish with those shells." Lapis smiles and stands up.

They finish their task and return to the house. Lapis knew Peridot only told Steven to come with her, because the green gem wanted to stay alone for a while. Lately she has been acting strange around the others, but no one seemed to noticed, only Lapis did.

The ocean gem wishes Peridot could finish whatever she wanted in those hours Lapis stayed with Steven.
