Okay I don't know how this would exactly work. Because he gave her his screwdriver and took her to the towers before she died. But she was there when he died. And honestly I'm too tired to logically think this out, but I decided to write this little thing. Disclaimer, I don't own anything otherwise the doctor and river would never die. Would be together forever, and have little half doctor/half river babies. And jenny would come back and all sorts of things.

"You said you killed someone, and that's why you were imprisoned."

"A wonderful man," River said, looking down. Whenever someone asked her a question about this topic, she was forced to remember. The beach. The death draining from his eyes. The tears.

"Who did you kill?"

River sighed, she couldn't count the number of times she answered with one simple word, spoilers. But she was dead now, well not exactly dead but not alive either. And sure she loved it here, it was better than being dead. But she missed the running, missed running into him during their adventures. She use to think the worst thing was him not knowing her, but this was worse. Not seeing him, remembering every curve every freckle. But not being able to actually see him, smell him, feel him. "Do you remember the doctor?"

"That crazy man with that sonic thing?"

"My crazy man, with the sonic thing. His sonic screwdriver." River smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes.

"He's the one you killed?"

River couldn't say it out loud so she nodded.

"But I thought you loved him?"

"Oh I did," river paused, "do. I always will."

"So then why did you kill him?"

"I didn't exactly," Then River told her about the day at the beach, or well the day at the lake. How the astronaut came, how that thing was actually responsible for the death.

"So you why did you say you killed him then?"

"It was the three of us, four if you counted Canton, who was left with the Doctor's body. They, the authorities, knew about the Doctor's death right away. I'm not sure how, but they did. Someone needed to take the blame. Amy and Rory, neither of them could survive in a prison or be without the other. Canton was so old, no one would believe he could kill an actual time lord. So that left me, I already felt responsible, I could have saved him. I knew something was wrong, when the doctor told us to stay back. I should haven't have listened, I never listen."

"River."

"Right. So when they came, I said I did it. I made the others swear that they would say I did it. Someone needed to be responsible. Besides at the time, I thought I would never see him again."

"But you did?"

River laughed, "It was only the beginning, of course I kept seeing younger versions. Versions that knew me but didn't know me. Until the day at the library, i'd never meet a version that didn't know me. Obviously. And I feel terrible that the first time he meet me was me dying. He never said anything. We have are rules. "
