"What do you think?" Victor asked as he pulled out a purple tie from his wardrobe, nearing it to his ice blue dress shirt.
Ruby, who'd been sitting on the bed for the past ten minutes, watching him get ready, didn't even bother to respond.
"Alright, Miss Picky," he groaned, letting the purple tie fall onto the floor, and pulled out another one. Red with white dots, this time. "How about this one?"
She glared at him through the mirror.
"What? I thought you liked red!" he argued, but still dropped the second tie to pile over the first one.
"You're not being helpful, you know?" he complained, rummaging further into the wardrobe for the right tie. "If none of my babies is good for you, then why didn't you buy me one? It's our first anniversary, after all."
Ruby sighed and cast him a sarcastic look, conveying all her impatience.
In the meantime, Victor had found an old tie he had even forgotten he owned. Electric blue, with little yellow ducks all over. Jokingly, he put it around his neck and turned to show it to Ruby.
"This one wins all of the awards, admit it."
She wistfully tilted her head to one side, considering the option.
"I know you like it," he said smugly. "You love ugly ducklings."
Ruby groaned loudly and jumped off the bed. Her pendant tinkled on the chain around her neck.
"So it's approved?" he inquired, glancing down at her with a smirk. "The ducklings win?"
A simple nod from her was enough for him to grin broadly. He squatted down next to Ruby and, grinning even more broadly, placed his hand on her head, petting her lovingly.
"Who's my good girl?"
Ruby growled threateningly, exposing her fangs, but Victor laughed heartily and threw his arms around her, burying his face in her soft, dark hair.
"Who'd have thought I'd spend my first marriage anniversary with a wolf? Especially when I have such a gorgeous wife…"
Still enveloped in his arms, Ruby turned to lick his face.
"Oh, yes, here's my good girl! Here's my - ouch!"
She'd nibbled his ear, just to remind him to watch his mouth.
He pulled back and pointed a finger at her scoldingly.
"Behave! It was already awkward enough to explain to the guy at the restaurant that, instead of my beautiful wife, I was going to be accompanied by my dog. And we're lucky they're pet friendly."
Ruby yelped and gave him antother quick kiss on his nose.
Victor smiled.
At first he'd thought it was very bad luck to have a full moon on their first anniversary, but now he didn't mind it that much. It was no big difference, after all, and Ruby was as lovely as a wolf as she was in her human form.
"Come on, Fluffy," he said, beckoning her to stand up. "I bought you a wonderful collar and leash set. You're going to be the classiest bitch, tonight."
Ruby barked and made to bite his hand, but he was expecting it and withdrew it quickly.
"Sorry. I've been waiting all week to say that."
Ruby nudged him with her wet nose and Victor let down his hand again, stroking her between her ears.
"You know what, Mrs. Frankenstein?," he said as they walked out of the room. "I really really love how weird we are."
