He had a reputation, and believe it or not, she only got hers from trying to live up to it. Dallas/Sylvia

[Reputations]

He's the toughest hood in all of Tulsa. She's just a trashy broad.

He's intimidating, cold, aloof—a hardened criminal with a record to prove it. She's just another pretty face.

He's feared, idolized, respected. She's mocked, scorned, ignored.

He's every girl's dream.

She's nobody.

He walks right on by…

So she makes him notice her.

There are plenty of beautiful girls, and he could have any one of them. So she stands out by wearing her make-up even darker, her clothes even tighter. Because that's what he wants, isn't it?

Those other girls are clingy and demanding, but he needs someone as independent as he is. So when he's not there, she shows how quickly she can forget. (Even if she's drunk and it's just one night.)

There's a fine line between giving him space and being disloyal, but she doesn't see it. She needs him to know they don't have to be serious.

Everyone knows him, so everyone needs to know her. She adds drama, because then at least she's got something. It's a poor something… but it's something. And then she has a chance.

She has to make a name for herself.

She has to.

She has to stand beside him and not just be a part of his legacy, but forge her own.

Living in his shadow isn't good enough, not when everyone expects more. Not when he expects more.

She just wants to be good enough for him, that's all.

And living up to Dallas Winston is so damn impossible, sometimes she doesn't know why she tries.

Notes: Just a little drabble. I always wondered why Sylvia kept wanting Dallas back after she cheated on him again and again, and this is my take on it. It's got to be hard trying to hold on to someone as famous as Dallas Winston when you're nothing special.

This is the shortest thing I've ever written, but that's the point—short and sweet. I know it's not exactly a drabble, since it's a bit more than 100 words, but it's the best I could do. What did you think? Was it good enough to get away with being so short, or did I miss the mark?

Stay gold,
