Hi people! Yup, me back. This fic came to me in a dream... (in which Sissel was half bird and learned to fly among other stuff) so, I, erm, modified my dream a little. This is why I'm writing at twenty to ten in the morning. May not make a lot of sense so... yeah. SPOILERS ABOUND!

''Lynne, I want to be an ordinary cat,'' said Sissel one morning.
''Wuh?'' Lynne paused her eating of the chicken roast.
''I've been thinking about this a lot, Lynne, and I've decided what's best for me,'' he continued.
''But... why?'' Lynne asked incredulously.
''Humans die. And when all of you die of old age there'll be nothing I can do,'' explained Sissel. ''And then I'll be alone again.''
''But-''
''Please Lynne. I have a good family and a happy existence here. That's all I ever wanted and more.''
''What if I die again?'' Lynne looked horrified.
''All we need to do is prevent that from happening in the first place,'' the cat said.
''...All right, where do we start?'' the detective resigned herself.

''The meteorite will be removed. Then you should lose your Ghost Tricks. You're okay with that?'' Lynne whispered to Sissel.
''I'm fine with that.'' He looked less and less fine with every passing minute.
''Are you ready to proceed?'' asked the vet, holding some scary-looking implements.
Lynne gulped and nodded.

''You're going to be under anaesthetic for a lot of this, but... is there anything I can do for you?'' she said softly, sympathy creeping into her voice.
''Just... hold my paw. Please.''
''Okay,'' Lynne did so, thinking how cold he was.

Is it selfish for me to want this? he wondered. I feel like a coward. I feel like I'm abandoning them all.
For the next few minutes Sissel went in and out of consciousness. Not once did either of them waver and let go.

''Sissel? Sissel, are you okay?''
He opened his eyes. Lynne was standing in front of him. Her face lit up.
''You're awake! Finally,'' she frowned, barely concealing her grin.
''Lynne...?''
''How can you still speak to me? Did the operation... fail?''
''No, the meteorite is gone,'' Sissel was confused.
They both pondered this for a minute.

''I think I know why,'' Sissel said quietly. ''Even if the meteorite's gone, maybe the radiation it left behind isn't?''
''That was a huge waste of time,'' Lynne sighed. ''Still, I can't say I'm not a little relieved it didn't work. I would have missed fighting with you.''
''Me too,'' Sissel looked away.

Even if this is headed towards despair, I can't let go, because you're here. I miss you when you're not there. As long as you're here, everything's okay for now. You make me happy.

But because he wasn't good at expressing all these feelings, he said this.
''Hey, Lynne?''
''Yeah?''
''I love you.''

Lynne's face was consumed by a beautiful smile.
''I love you too Sissel.''
