Just A Game

"That was fun last night, Matsuda," said the Chief as he and his subordinate climbed the stairs of the Task Force Headquarters. It was getting late, and tonight was one of the few nights when the Chief was staying at Headquarters to keep an eye on Light. It wasn't like there was a shortage of hotel-style rooms to accommodate him.

"Yes, sir," Matsuda responded. His cheeks flushed slightly. He couldn't believe Aizawa had almost caught them—no, that was too embarrassing to think about. He'd never be able to look the fuzzy-haired detective in the eye again. What would have happened, he wondered, if they hadn't been able to hide everything in time? Would Aizawa have wanted to join in? Or would he have just walked away quietly?

"What I'm trying to say, Matsuda, is that we should do it again now."

"What—right now?" Matsuda stammered.

"Why not? We've got plenty of time. Don't look so apprehensive, it's completely normal. Everyone's done it at some point."

The younger man frowned. He found that hard to believe. "Even Ryuzaki?"

The Chief nodded. "I expect so. It's hard to go through life without doing it, and it is rather addictive."

"I know, but... I just didn't think you'd be into this sort of thing, Chief," Matsuda smiled. He was discovering more and more about his boss every day.

Mr. Yagami chuckled. "You'd be surprised."

After a long walk full of idle chat, the two men reached Matsuda's apartment. Once inside, they took of their jackets and Matsuda unbuttoned his collar; the day had been sweltering.

He ran a hand through his hair. "Can I go on top this time, Chief?" he asked nervously.

The Chief sat down on the sofa. "I really don't see what difference it makes. I find it just as enjoyable on the top as on the bottom." He shrugged. "OK, if you want. It won't make much difference."

"You'll probably beat me, anyway," Matsuda grumbled. He knew it was true; the Chief always finished first. He supposed having a son helped; it gave him an excuse to practice.

The Chief bent down and retrieved the controllers from the floor. Matsuda inserted "Mario Kart Wii" into the console and they began to race.

A/N: Well, there you have it. Matsuda and the Chief indulge in some Mario Kart goodness. Wait, you thought they were talking about WHAT now? Oh you ^_^. Anyway, I know this is kinda short and it feels a bit rushed. School starts tomorrow and I've got the pre-term jitters, which is why this fic sucks. Reviews are welcome and flames will be met with a fire extinguisher. Bye! x
