Desire. It's a strong urge that everyone gets at certain points during their lives. It takes a lot of strength to not give in to some of these desires. Even a Garde can lack the strength to resist a sudden, pulsing urge.
Jane knows that John struggles. He thinks of the warmth of being in Sarah's arms; her photographing anything and everything worth photographing; those soft blue eyes of hers. You would have to be blind not to see that he misses her. So Jane lets him remember and dream- until it gets too intense.
When he thinks of going back- really considers it- she can tell. And all she has to say are five simple words: "Don't forget who died for us."
They keep moving forward.
